Anybody in the forums ever try to tint your own car? If so how did it turn out and would you suggest it?

i had mine professionally done at ziebart but my friend had tried it and it didn't really work out as good as u would want because first of all its too much work especially on the back glass. secondly its reallly hard to get it perfect cus like he had alot of places where the tint didn't get all the way to the edge. plus the tint u get at autozone or something is not good quality compared to tint shops. i would suggest having it done professionally... its a little expensive compared to doing it yourself but its done right plus alot of places offer good warranties on their work

Well considering the amount of cars I've seen with purple tint with air bubbles, I'd stay away from DIY. The guy I knew personally who has tried it, ended up doing it on a day the wind was blowing hard while drinking Jack straight out of the bottle. Most of the tint ended up on the car behind his or either got stuck together and balled up.

+1. Getting mine done from Ziebart too. They'll put in the window tint protector for ya too, and even if you do get tint scratches I think they'll replace it. Worth it in the end.

I would have it done professionally. I have done it myself a few times, but unless you spring for the good tint (read expensive in small quantity) you will end up with a not so great result.

Plus if you have someone else do it, you can make them re-do it if it turns out bad. Just do a good job of inspecting you car before you pay!

one of my friends got the tint from a tint place and put it on by himself, came out really good, just make sure you clean the glass really good, he also put it on first and then cut out around the window edges and pulled off the excess, hope it helps

also tints turn purple if the quality is bad and also if you clean them with window cleaners that are not water based, ex, windex takes color off any tint and will turn it purple

If you have a car with curved windows, like the rear one on my hatch...you'll almost need to use a heat-gun on it. Funny, I actually tried to tint the rear window on the hatch but gave up after a wind storm came out of no-where and ended up blowing it constantly. No garage at the time; plus the $2 close-out Big Lots film was toss-able.

Word of advice, add a GOOD amount of dish soap to the water solution that you use to apply the tint.

if u are gonna get it done by a shop make sure u shop around quite a bit to see who's charging how much and what quality tint they are using cus there are different ones. also very important to see what kind of warranties they are offering.

if do it yourself..you just have to make sure the windows are very clean with your water solution..they sell other things to put on windows pre-tint..and TAKE YOUR TIME..you hafta be extrmely patient in order to get it right

as for me..i just got it done professionally =] but i love the 5%

Woah! I payed $50 for mine and they have been great for the past year 1/2 and my brothers car as well and a buddies as well!

The only scratches i have are due to AAA because my friend locked my KEYS in MY CAR! LOL.... Not worth $20 to have one window redone...

And no warranty... seeing as they are not completely legal... In miami, you can get away with pretty dark tints...

as to the topic of the forum! I saw a friend put on tints on a friends car.... NOT a good thing! LOL... The shops use this blow drier of sorts that heats up the tint as they put it on.. I dont know...
