Low gas mileage

How come the lancers have low gas mileage when they don't even really have a big engine or high hp. i don't know too much about the "technical" stuff but i don't get how the other cars like honda or toyota or even something like the cobalt ss that have same or more hp give almost better gas mileage ??

mitsubishi has never had interest in fuel economy for the US. i think the mivec lancers do a lil better.

if u also noticed, toyota does not produce anymore sports cars (except the lexus IS-F & other new stuff coming out) & honda dsn't really either. i think the car makers are in a transition period now that the bill was passed to start forcing car makers to make cars with higher mpg.

starting 2010, all car makers who wish to sell cars in USA will have to have the entire line avg 25mpg. this number will go up 3mpg every 3 years until either the planet runs out of fuel (predicted 2016 by OPEC) or they design an alternative method of propulsion. in other words, SUV's will be disappearing real soon.

if it makes u feel better, i get 11mpg in my Rover LR3 if i don't use the a/c!!!
but if i had the twin turbo V8 diesel model sold in the UK, i could get 32mpg + if i added a propane injection kit to the diesel i could get 47mpg so i would only have to fill up once a month instead of once to twice a week...

i mean you could be running to much fuel into the engine. my stock lancer oz ran horrible stock. untill i was able to datalog it and find out what was happening. i had to much timing so automatically my car ran on my low octane map whenever i put 87 in because it was seeing so much knock. when i put in 93 it was a little better because the knock sum went down. the higher the octane you run the more timing you can run

Cars run rich from the factory. It's because that's how to make sure they're 100% safe.

Too rich - bad gas mileage
Too lean - engine blows up

See why they go for rich?

Nope. The MIVEC Lancers get LOWER MPG. In my 4G94, I was usually doing low 30s. The 4B11 averages mid to high 20s.

that would be mine since the only way to really enjoy an evo is to drive like a complete idiot. if i drive it that way, i avg 4-7mpg or translated loosely means a 1/2 tank of race fuel lasts me around 60miles.

the only time i drove it like a civil human being is during the break-in when i bought it. don't remember the mpg back then tho

i'm guessing that the 09 lancer with the 2.4l and the railliart will give even a lower gas mileage

the GTS car will be a bit heavier and with very little HP/TQ improvement the fuel econ will fall.

Again no clue why they are playing with the lancer GTS if its not going to yeild a step up in performance.

Their Cali Spec GTS 09 is probably going to be 152 which is right back to where we started lol

since the new Lancer is the Galant Fortis in Japan, it appears that the motor spec over there is a 2L 4B11 Mivec motor with 152hp/146tq with a base weight of 3020lbs. they have 3 models (exceed, super exceed, sport) with options like a 6spd CVT trans, AWD, HID's, leather w/wood grain, navi, etc. i would imagine that we get a mixture of those 3 models to the US. the new motor already is lower than the 2005 Japan emissions standard by 75% so it appears that Mitsu is getting pressure from environmentalists for not jumping on board the green program.

it looks like the end of affordable performance is slowly coming to an end. cracking these new ECU's is almost as difficult as hacking PC's. it will probly be done for a lil while longer until tuners give up & stop trying to do it as it will no longer b profitable.

the same thing is happening right now in the car audio world. they are making it alot harder to install aftermarket audio gear. for example, the interior of the Lexus LS 600h was designed AROUND the audio system. if u change it, it could sound worse!!

What are you getting with your EVO's? I am getting about 23 to 24 mpg. Mostely highway mileage ~75mph. I have quite a few mods though w/ flash, but still want a good tune.
