2008 Lancer Oil Change

Ok, so I did a search and really didn't find out what I really wanted to know. My GTS is about 3000 Miles and about a week or so ago I get a 'Service Overdue' statement on my Navi when I start the car up. Does this mean it's time for an Oil Change or something else?

Off hand, does anyone know how much the dealer is for an oil change? I'm about to go on a 700 mile road trip soon, and figured it would probably be in my best judgement to get it done sooner than later

Thanks in advance

Oil change. That's all they do at the 3k service.

I think it's about $30 at my dealership. But I've always DIYed it, so that's going off my memory from last time I glanced at their price board.

PS - here's an informational post from the How-To section. Has some details that will help you prepare. That thread also links to the discussion thread in the How-To Requests/Questions/Tips forum.

Actually with todays synthetic oil technology, you can easily go 5000-6000 miles without changing oil. Of course this does not apply to heavy driven, performance oriented driving, just everyday commute to work kind of driving, if you miss an oil change and go 4000 miles instead of 3000, nothing will happen.

Yeah, but I'm willing to bet that they're putting in $5/gallon Wal-mart oil . . .

My dealership has all kinds of Castrol signs and floormats. They put cheapo oil in the cars. Hello, False Advertising!

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and a filter.

a filter worth looking at is the Bosch 3323 Oil filter,
http://www.boschautoparts.com/Produc...OilFilters.htm

What they claim
~~~~
Superior oil filtration for increased engine protection.
Bosch Premium Oil Filters, featuring Bosch FILTECH, utilize an exclusive blend of natural and synthetic materials to provide superior oil filtration and increased engine wear protection. The Bosch FILTECH filtering area is up to 42% larger than conventional filters. Plus, the filter media is close to 30% thicker, and can screen out more harmful contaminants than a conventional filter.
~~~~~~
But its unknown which store carries them

Bosch and Mobil 1 are the same filter, so if your auto parts store doesn't carry Bosch, just grab the Mobil 1.

BTW, our dealer that I worked at used "Castrol" stickers... I know that oil was what ever cheap crap they could get though, don't be so simple minded as to believe that the sticker for the oil change interval matches the oil... Every gas station in town can get those stickers...

Sure you get crappy oil, BUT, on the brighter side, you can take all those stickers and start a collection! If you don't DIY oil changes, bring the oil that you prefer and tell them to save the empty jug because you need the UPC for a rebate or something...it gives a small assurance that they don't keep your good oil and give you tepid dinosaur **** instead.

but then again u don't know if they're just draining ur oil into some other can for their cars and still putting cheap crap in your car and just giving u back the can u brought lol. i guess its best to either have it done by someone u trust or just DIY.
