2008 Lancer ES or 2008 Subaru Impreza?
I am in the market to buy a new car, and was wondering if a 2008 ES Lancer or 2008 Subaru Impreza the 4 door 2.5L? I went to see the new 08 Lancer today in person and it is NICE! I have not seen the subaru Impreza in person yet. But both are in the same price range. Which car would be better all around?

Because I have a 93 vette and I am going to college and need a reliable car, and the place I am going to is pretty hilly and the vette scrapes everything. And the vette drinks gas like crazy. I get like 13 in town and 17 on highway on good days. So I need something reliable, good on gas, and still sporty in the price range of 16-18 and I want a brand new car.

I think you'll be happy with either two but Lancer ES is a bit cheaper than the base Impreza and Mitsubishi offers a longer warranty. And I don't have to mention aesthetics as I think Lancer looks so much better than the new Impreza, interiorwise they are about the same.

Any normal car enthusiast will tell you to get the Impreza for the same reasons that ambystom01 said. Faster, awd. Plus, you can get the hatchback and act like a hardass like the owners of said model act here. The Lancer is a decent bit more attractive though, and probably a little more "luxurious" (as far as luxury goes in entry level cars...)

the subaru is more expensive, heavier, unglier, and gets worse gas mileage. Only plus IMO is the awd. It will not be as quick as the lancer but will be good during winters. I say spend a little more and go with a GTS

Well the WRX is severely underrated from the factory, based on dynoes it puts out more like 250 hp than 230.
As for weight, the GTS is almost the same weight as the new impreza, in fact it's heavier depending on who you trust. Looks are in the eye of the beholder (though I agree it's not as good looking as the old models) and I would suspect gas mileage is reasonably even. As for speed, based on "Car and Driver"'s tests, the impreza has a slightly slower 0-60 time (by 0.1 of a second) but a faster 1/4 mile time than the GTS.
