Swapping a welded muffler for a bolt-on
Some people prefer catbacks since the piping is generally expanded (makes for a deeper sound) and a lot of companies don't make just mufflers. They also allow you to switch back to stock if you decide to sell the car. Obviously the last point is useless here.
I suggest if you still have your old muffler around, taking the pipe and welding the original pipe back, then moving on to a bolt on option. From what i have heard from shops is that your pipe should have pieces, one pipe from Header all the way back will not have free movement and it will crack sooner or later. Remember the engine is on mounts and your engine will move around up and down. If your pipe is one peice there is no give, so the metal itself we start to sway back and forth until cracks start to form. Becareful, you can keep your current exhaust but you should put a cut back in their to separate the pipe.
My advise is try not to wide open throttle it too much

How about this: if you dont want a catback, then just buy a muffler and go custom. It might be cheaper than an aftermarket catback. I dont even know if they already have those for the 08's so best bet is custom.
Get what put on?
Axleback - NO
Catback - YES
Stock muffler - NO
You've pretty much doomed yourself to using an aftermarket catback setup, or paying someone to get the car back to stock (so you could use the stock stuff or an axleback). Those are your only options.

And since going back to the axleback setup, your better off attempting to get a full back system done. Taking a step forward and not backward. as for right now, the only harm that is being done is to the stock pipe, so its not a big deal right now, but over time your pipe may start to crack. no idea how long it would take, pipe quality, temps its subjected too, but everyone i have asked, said you need a flex pipe or a joining pipe of some kinda to have it setup properly.
if you are happy with the way it is, you could weldon a flex pipe i think.
If you need a shop let me know, they are moderately priced but i know they will do it right.
