That is a 1st gen VR4, only 5sp, 2nd gen were 6sp so they have it lower, but still 100+

LanEVO,
The Evo's are set to read/display speeds in kph. The speed limiter comes in when the speed reaches 180kph, which equates to 112mph.

What we do in the UK is convert the speed signal to mph from the sensor and feed it to the ECU. This fools the ECU into thinking it is seeing a slower kph speed, infact its mph. This means the speed limiter never operates, as the car wont reach 180 mph!

So I can be driving my E6 at 130mph (on a track of course) and the ECU sees the speed as 130kph, below the speed limit.

The only other thing we do is put a label over the kph on the speedo that reads mph. The speedo is still accurate.

Hope this helps.

All u have to do is take the speed limiter off, or get a new ECU

Evo7, the speed limiter is internal to the ECU, which is why you need to feed the speed signal to the ECU by some electronics to fool it. You cant just 'remove it'. I think buying a new ECU just to remove the speed limiter is a very expensive option.

LanEvo: All the imports (Evo, Impreza, Skyline etc) coming to the UK need the speedo converting from kph to mph as part of the SVA test (amongst other things). The easy way of doing this is what i have described previously. All this would be undertaken by the supplying dealer. The converters arent expensive (I'm guessing at less than 100ukpounds fitted) and are certainly cheaper than a new ECU. The other benefit is the speed limiter is moved to 180mph. Incidently the 'UK' cars supplied by Ralliart needed this modification too.

Having said all that is the 112mph limit a problem? The Evo is not a high speed car, its greatness comes from its handling and fast acceleration. If I wanted to drive in excess of 112mph there are many more better suited cars.

I'm guessing that you should be able to achieve 140mph. I seem to remember seeing 120mph in my scoob on track once or twice and that had about 80bhp less than the Evo. Dont know how accurate the speedo was though.
