Need help, First car.

Hi, My names Eric. I am new to the site. And I was wondering since you guys probably
know a lot more about cars then I do maybe you guys can help me out?
I was thinking about buying this car, its not an Evo or anything. Its a 03 Oz rally, its got 72K miles.
The sticker says 7,995, my dad and I talked the dealer into 7,400$ and a new stereo,
and I was wanting to know what you guys thought of the deal.

I POSTED THIS ON THE RAILLANT ONE BY ACCIDENT.

The exterior looks like it is in pretty good shape, how was the interior? Also, how was the engine running? Try to find out what kind of maintenance was done, like timing belt or any PMs the dealer did. If they did a bit of work to get it in selling condition, and it was running alright, then I would say it's an alright deal. Not GREAT, but it isn't as bad as some dealers I've seen people get hustled by. A friend of mine got his Lancer last year for 10k, soon after we found out it was in a frontal and rear accident, sandwiched in between 2 cars. That was a bad deal.

Well, the interior great. Its got Evo seats in the front, Its super clean. The tires/wheels are BRAND new, he showed me the order receipt the date on the was 12/19/07. And its got a megaflow exhaust. The engine runs great.
I guess the reason he doesn't want to go down is cause the stock wheels/tires from the lancer, got stolen so he lost his profit by buying a new set. But thats not my fault

but other then that. it runs great. had 1 previous owner.

run a carfax on it, personally i would never buy anything with 50k+ miles unless it was a I6, or V6, v8. they last longer.

and yea, 7k is alot for a car with that many miles.

Hey Eric, definitely a good choice with '02-'03 model year! The price I still think is a bit steep...if you care to take a gander at my OZ F/S ($5700), feel free to visit here. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=319458

Its his FIRST car... Normally I would say I would never buy anything with over 50k miles either, but as a first car...

Do a carfax. KBB suggested retail is 9,790. And trade-in (so the high and the low here) is 6,375. I'd say as long as the carfax checks out that you're getting a pretty good deal, solely based on KBB, especially if it really only had one other owner and its in as good of shape as you think it is.

Clean title, great... But did it really only list one owner? Where was he/she located (give you an idea of the kind of driving)? And how long has the dealer had it on their lot?

Yeah 1 owner, its been in the dealers lot for almost 6 months. he said hes garaged it when it snows. but it could just be bs and saying that.

the previous owner lives in des moines, iowa which is where the cars being sold.

and i am going to try to find little itty bitty problems with it, and nag about it.
see if he lowers it another 500 or so :]
