Any Potential Evo Owners in Canada?
Billy:
Went to the site. I didn't realized it would be that difficult to import a car from the States to Canada. I thought that the States and Canada had very similar regulations in regards to automobile regulations. Hmmmmm... I wonder what Mitsu did/or will do to make the Lancer admissible in Canada when they come in September. It must be something pretty big, because the car is listed as inadmissible, while others are either admissible pending modifications or admissible with no modifications. I guess there's a chance that if Mitsu doesn't bring the Evo over to Canada, we might not be able to import it!
We'll just have to wait and see!

A couple of months back I post on here that I had called the Canadian Registrar of Vehicles for importing from U.S. to Canada. I asked if I could import an 2003 Evo VII from the States. After much waiting on the phone the guy came back and told me "no problem". Why they would say no problem on a car that doesn't have an official release date or info is beyond me. Maybe it was the janitor screwing around with the phones posing as a worker and messing with my mind.

I worked at a Harley/Yamaha/Honda dealer on the US/Canada border. Canada use to get many bikes that were never imported into the US. RZ500, RG500, RG250, NS400, these were all 2 strokes that would not make it into the US because of emissions. If a customer from Canada would ride one over, we would buy it and then ride it around with our US dealer plates. Hell, they even had the YZF750 a year before the US got it. Why dont you guys up in Canada just move down here? no snow...taxes are lower...

Actually were I live the weather is a lot like California. Hot and dry in the summer with some good skiing and snow boarding in the winter up in the mountains. Plus, lots of twisty back roads that scream for the presence of an Evo. If I can't get an Evo here, I just may have to move and depending on how the U.S. spec Evo turns out, I just may have to move elsewhere in the world. Cluadius, N.Ring, Michaelk and gang sound like they are having too much fun. I just may have to join them.

From: New York... moving to Toronto soon
yeah maybe i should move to japan, then i'll be swimming in the likes of GTRs, Evos, STIs, silvias, type Rs.... heheh forgive my sarcasism, i just want to say that i'll be real mad if at the end of the day canadians are gonna miss out on such a wonderful car. part of the reason why (and i say PART, a small part) i'm moving back to toronto is coz its just cheaper to keep a car there, rather than i say Manhattan new york, where i am now, where a car would deplete my life savings in a matter of months... anyways back to the topic, does anyone remember the toronto auto show at skydome... like a month or so ago? i went but i dun think i saw an Evo on display, and its presence or absense could be a clue, not a statement, a clue, anyways can anyone confirm this for me?

In here it lists all the cars Mitsu will be bringing to Canada. If this is correct, we will not see Lancers sold here, let alone EVO's.
Now this is assuming that this info is correct but everyone seems to be either hush hush or in the dark about this.
Take heart, if you still have your money you still have options... that's the way I see it.
Somehow, in doing the math, I'm realizing that an EVO selling at close to 30K USD ($47,596.84 CAD right now) is a lot of dough and when and if the times comes, I might not even go this route.
Also at the Toronto International Car Show, I talked to a lady who "represented" MMSA but didn't actually work for them... probably just a contractor hired for a show or two.
Anyway, she told me that the EVO will be introduced to the USDM in January but there were no plans to bring it to Canada. I take all info with a grain of salt now and I'm just repeating what she said.
As for emissions, I don't know the difference between the US and Canada. The mandates are different across provinces and states anyway so IMO it's not useful to generalize broadly.
I imagine lots of this really isn't about emissions, it's about who (ie. corporations/lobby groups) pays enough or bothers enough, legally or otherwise, to have governments see things their way so that they can garner enough public satisfaction to be voted back into power... heck forget all that is decent, just save my electorial seat! Corruption continues to spread yessum.
Course that could just be the grumpy old man in me talking.

hey billy, dun be so upset, the link you read from is old and talks about the 2001 line up, here is the new link for the 2003 lineup
http://www.mitsubishicars.com/canada/erelease2.html
it says all of the USDM modelling lines will make it, but it might just be the base lancers and not the evo... so we're still waiting... and lets keep our fingers crossed

seems like they moved up the official date of invasion to september rather than early next year, anyone living in metro Toronto will spot me running around Mitsu dealers hackling them on the day of their grand openning, hope to see you guys there hehehehe,

Wowee, so based on present information don't expect to see the EVO in Canada just yet. Optimistically since the EVO isn't fully spec'd out yet and the dealership base hasn't broken ground yet in Canada I would think that the 2003 line-up is anything but firmed up. Who knows...
Also on the price, the price conversion for cars from the US to Canada obeys anything but the market rate. Look at the Prelude it was over 20 USD and under 30 CDN.

which rounds the Evo up to be around 40k CDN (thinking approx 29k US for Evo with some options), i certainly like your thinking essfor (picture me scratchin chin)
on comparison canadian market cars are a couple Gs less than USDMs but then... the taxes just aint all that pretty.... oh well... (keep it positive, keep it positive)
if it does end up to be around 40, my wallet will be throwing a party
harharhar!
