hey wussup, any word if the Evo is going to canada? better yet, anyone went to a dealer and put down a deposit for an Evo? please let me know, i'm gonna move to toronto soon (back to my roots man:headbng2: )and i just want to know wuz going on up there. Thanx!
Getting an EVO into the Canada as a track duty car and driving it on the street will be akin to driving your EVO off a cliff! When the cops find out, they'll impound and compact your car so small it'll be the size of a suitcase!
Someone is guaranteed to rat you out.
Oh btw, there is currently no Mitsu dealership network in Canada but come September they should start popping up around major Metropolitan centres.

yeah they say theres gonna be like 150 dealerships by 2005... lets hope theres enough dealerships by next year when the Evo (well if its EVER gonna come) comes so i dun have to driver to BC or something to get my evo
and nah... not track duty, if anything i'm just gonna register it with my NY address... i dunno... I NEED THAT TURBO BABY! heheehh just kidding, i'm a law abidding citizen, i dun even drive over 30 hehehe:headbng2:

Canadian automobile registration rules are designed to restrict the importation of cars only to those that meet certain specific requirements... federalization or whatever they call it.
Since no EVO's are allowed they can only be imported as track duty cars which means they cannot actually be driven on a street as much as a farm tractor or a full blown NHRA dragster can be driven on a street. And if they catch you, they'll take your car away and ask questions later. That's my understanding anyway.
Oh yeah, there will apparently be 7 Mitsu dealers in the Toronto area by September 2002 however that still doesn't change the fact that Mitsu won't be selling the EVO in Canada, only the US. So Mitsu is saying now anyway, of course that could change tomorrow or the day after?
If you register it as an American car you could probably do that. Hey can I call shotgun now? Man I'd love to ride in that since we get the short end of the stick once again.

oh well... lets keep pur fingers crossed bout dealerships in toronto selling Evos next year... even tho deep inside i know it probably wont pass that whole "federalization" deal... canada's so strict with cars.... even the MR-2 spyder didnt make it... man... oh yeah billy do you know where those toronto dealerships are gonna be? probably should pay them a visit when they open.
These guys are driven by pure lustful greed
There's no reason for them to bring the EVO to Canada unless their prelim research tells them that a major pocket padding is in the works.
Zero, sorry man I have no idea though I believe my Subaru dealership (Marino's) in West Toronto is bidding for a franchise. I'll definitely be buying it there as I know some of the mechanics and the other employees there are really really helpful from the sales staff right down to the service staff. Doesn't mean they won't try and shaft me for a 2K surcharge over MSRP if the EVO comes but let's get there first shall we?
So are you a Canadian or American citizen?

How bout importing it from the States?
Hey, even if we don't get it in Canada, wouldn't it be possible to import the Evo from the State? I don't think it would be that difficult to get over from the States. I 've seen quite a few Eclipses (prev. gen, and current gen.) rolling around Canada (Toronto, specifically) these past couple of months. Even though we might not get the Evo, I don't think it'll be that difficult to import one from the states, although it would be more expensive.

Eclipses can be imported into Canada with a modicum of fuss. Lancers on the other hand are not allowed, also meaning that there is no way to legally import an OZ Lancer into Canada from the States... I mean if one wanted to do so that is.
Zeroize: Lured by the big bux of the big city eh? Can't say I blame you!
Umm I can email you if I hear something but the best source is still the mitsu website.

Besides if I hear anything myself, you better believe I'll post the info here on this board!!

billy, since mitsu said they're gonna bring over the full line up to canada, they probably worked out something to bring in the lancer, i didnt say anything bout the Evo, but i'm sure mitsu worked it out on the regular lancers somehow. (and btw, no big bux, more like those big shinny lites thats making me dizzy now)
anyways does anyone know exactly how much stricter canadian vehicle standards are as compared to US? like emissions and so on? i've heard so much bout it but i've never seen a point by point comparison or anything official that explains why in the past so many cars made it to the US but not across the border... thanx!
