you may think the torque steer is horrendous, but surprisingly its very manageable....just take a look at the best motoring episode with the new 2008 wrx vs the 2008 ms3...hands down the ms3 beats the wrx on almost every test and gets a significantly better lap time in tsukuba. this is all stock of course......

back on topic, its all up to you whether you want to trade off speed and awd for $ so obviously weigh every option, you dont want to be stuck with something boring now do you????

The WRX has a faster 0-60 and the same 1/4 time. Moreover, the MS3 comes clad in high performance summer tires, the WRX wears crappy all-seasons so naturally it should do better at a track. It's a nice car, but IMO it's limited by the drivetrain arrangement. If you keep it stock though, it would be a blast to drive.

very true, these are all things for the thread starter to consider....he does live in florida so maybe the absence of awd wont be that much of a disappointment.

You will notice a major difference in performance but I thought the comfort factor was a major increase. The car is much quieter, the ride is a lot smoother, and the electronics were a major boost. The speaker system and auto-climate controls alone were enough for me. Other perks would be better gas mileage and cheaper gas, not being tempted to mod AT ALL (not even tint the freaking windows), and it attracts much less attention.

I am still trying to get use to the CVT transmission but the area I live in is hell to drive in on a daily basis (bumper-to-bumper traffic, lots of hills, etc.) so its not that bad. I went from an '03 EVO w/ an Exedy Stage 1 Organic to an '08 GTS and I do intend to go to either an '06 IX GSR or a X. I'd say test drive the car a few times and then drive your own car. Really think hard about what you're doing and make sure you really want to trade or sell the EVO.

I knew I wasnt the only crazy one ! Noodle, thanks. I test drove the CVt version, I am going to test drive the manual and it is supposed to be a tad sportier. The point you made are very valid and are some of the resons I am trading of the IX. I want much better gas mileage, yes the interior is amazing compare the current lancer / evo. Even though mine is pristine with clean Defi's ni cired out, i feel that a GTS with navi is nicer and also the material is nicer.

I dont care much about the boom box or whatever, but the navi as i said is nice and the whole gauge cluster. The ride and handling are great, I pushed the car ala evo in the rain while i test drove and yes it felt underpowered compared to my IX but the handling was not disappointing at all. The things I will miss more about IX are going to be the Seats and the power (the tump from the rear dif when you shift hehe)

As I was talking to my girlfriend and mom last night, If I really want a X in the future (maybe 1 1/2 years) I need to pay some bills and school (my evo car payment is very high) So i figured I would get a GTS which is "inexpensive" for all the perks I get, save money, pay come credit cards and school: (spot being a slave to the evo) and then a year or so down the line when the kinks of the X are worked out (if any) or when I am financially ready again go by the evo X MR in SILVER

In the meantime, all I would do the far for a fact is coilovers and a flash when i become available via ecuflash or something. ( I have a tactrix, im sure that doest work on this new platform?)
maybe and intake, and if I really like it that much then do an egine swap or something crazy like bosting it. (but by then an evo may be more cost effective)

Although there is nothing sexier than a "slow" car beating up fast cars. IE. civc EK on boost beating my friends MR. .. come on !

BTW, color wise I am between WW or Silver (not graphite) - and leaning more toward silver.

No problem.

I still miss my Recaros from the EVO but considering how you can just lean back and enjoy the ride in this car its easy to forget about 'em. I agree that the car does tend to surprise on handling, it still surprises me to this day. I will say that I feel it handles much better than my old Ralliart which couldn't hold on to pavement if its life depended on it (hence why I don't have it anymore). I think you'll enjoy the car on long trips too, the 6th gear really helps with highway gas mileage.

The CVT has 6 fake gears - the cone/belts have 6 steps.

Um, you know you're wasting gas, right?

6th gear ratio - 0.518
CVT auto ratio - continuously variable between 2.349 - 0.394

Guess what it is on the highway? If you go a steady 60 mph in 6th gear, look at the RPMs. Then click over to D, and watch the RPMs drop.

If you drive a CVT GTS, you're better off cruising in D on the highway.
