Is it possible to negotiate with dealers when the 2009s first come out? I want to buy the GTS model right when they come out but I'm worried I may have to pay full sticker price. Does anyone know what the invoice price would be for a 5spd GTS 09 Lancer with sun/sound and tech/nav packages? When the 2008s first came out was anyone able to get the price below MSRP?

Whats the best negotiation technique? I don't want to let them know how badly I want the car...

Anyways, I plan on putting 5k down, trading in my 2004 Cavalier, and financing the rest over 48 months. What should I expect my monthly payments to be?

PS. Does anyone know for sure about the Traction Control, HIDs, and rain sensing wiper addition rumors????

For 2008 models (likely to be almost identical margins for 2009): for a CVT GTS: MSRP with nav+sun/sound packages is $22,740, and the dealer paid about $21,086 for the car (data from a respected consumer site). You can try to bargain, but a fair margin of 5% over what they paid is $22,140, so you're only looking at $600 off at the start of the model year.

Don't come out and tell them you know they paid about $1600 less than MSRP (or whatever, depends on options) after discounts and kickbacks, and ignore any paperwork that says otherwise, since that never shows kickbacks clearly. If you are not prepared to walk away without a car, then be prepared to pay whatever they want you to pay. Offer them about $1600 under MSRP (but make it clear you're bargaining) and see if they come back about $600 under MSRP (if they're close to that, just agree to their price).

Don't mention your trade-in until after you agree on a price without any trade-in (otherwise they'll find a way to rip you off), and be prepared to sell it privately if they don't offer you enough.

Be prepared to say no to rust proofing, extended warranties, and whatever other money-making scams are going, unless of course you want any of that... dealers make a lot of money off of extras and accessories, which are often marked up about 100%.

Do the '09s look any diff than the '08s. Anyone have pics. When my cousin got a 2000 Mustang, the only diff between that & an '01 was that Ford stuck a circle around the Mustang emblem. Did Mitsu just do something like that?

I doubt there will be any cosmetic changes. If there is, it'd be something like you described. But knowing , the 2010 will have a new nose (looking at the 02-06 line, which included 3 different front ends...)

Rain sensing wipers, traction control, and HIDs are all options on the 09 lancers as stated in the review in the...Automobile magazine. I will have to check the school library tomorrow for exact issue and page number. It also says they are out now? Wtf? My mitsubishi dealer told me 4-5 more months.

bump... any news on when the HIDs, rain sensing wipers and traction control could show up in the Lancer GTS?

I'd like to get the 2009 model now with the 2.4l engine but if they end up releasing a 2009.5 model with more standard options maybe i should wait. Does anyone know for sure about those options especially the HIDS and trac control?

i got my 09 last week and it doesn't have HID or rain sensing wipers. i don't know about any sort of traction control. i believe the only change was the bigger engine in the 09 gts. i don't know of any plans to put out another model later this year with those options.

The Mitsubishi website www.mitsubishicars.com says that a Touring Package will be offered on the GTS this summer. Click on Lancer, then Trims & Accessories, then the Packages tab. It's at the top.

Touring Package for GTS*
Active Stability and Traction Control system (ASC) • Auto on-off Xenon HID headlamps • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
*Available after June 2008
