Get some rough grit sand paper and sand it down hard. Take some soft grit and smooth it out. Spray a light layer of adhesive promotor on it then let it dry for 10 minutes. Then layer on 4-5 layers of engine enamel of your choice. I did that with my grill and made it completely flat black. Paint won't chip at all and it looks clean as hell. Did they same with my valve cover and a few other pieces in the engine bay.

leave the emblems in bleach for and it'll take all the chrome off leaving a perfect surface to paint on. When i did it i changed the bleach once in the morning and once at night. You only need enough so that the whole emblem is submerged.

I started painting my cedia emblem. I've painted the red part....the black is the natural colour of the emblem when the chrome was taken off. (kinda blurry)

Try using Krylon Fusion spray paint. Worked like a charm for me.

Well I say you could try doing it the same way most of us blacked the front chrome grill.

Sand it. Primer it with Dupli-Color Sandable Primer. Paint it with Dupli-Color Trim Paint.

I sanded, used adhesion promotor, sandable primer, and dupli color metal flecks Red, with about 3 coats of clear. Still has a really nice flat sheen to it and the color looks awsome. Will post pics tonight. Did the exact same with the interior. Came out like, it was a factory package!

Just out of curiosity, would painting the emblem be any bit more effective than just purchasing the vinyl overlays that people are selling on ebay? (in terms of durability and standing up to weather)

Depends on where you live, but I have not seen any people with vynal having any issues. I just think that it looks better, and looks higher quality. The vynal never really covers the whole emblem, so you end up with an uneven chrome out line.
