I was debating on getting the engine accents anyway so thats not to hard for me to let go but as for the pully there have been reports on the forums that people have noticed more posotive results after installing the pully. Ill take your advice on ditching the catch can I was iffy on it anyway since its a new car and all I figured it was for older cars. since the military doesnt exactly pay much anyway I wouldnt beable to get the hood and trunk lid for a quiet a few months and since the coil overs do seem better I will deal with the extra weight for a bit longer.

i would usually recommend the pulley, cos i have one on my car and it's pretty good. However i know that there have been several people posting about problems with the stock and aftermarket pulley on the 2008. With oil leaks and some other problems, so there may be possible issues there. And until all that is resolved, i wouldn't recommend getting an aftermarket pulley.

And like Amby said, read through the FAQ to learn about all the parts. And find out what exactly you want. Do you want performance or cosmetic modifications? Show or Go? because deciding that up front before you start modifying your car will save you a lot of time and money with buying parts that don't actually get you any closer to your end goal

Most of the mods you've listed (pulley, spark plugs, catch can) are supporting mods. You're not going to gain significant amounts of power from any of them (or even a combination) and they only really come into effect after you've done more substantial modifications. Spend the money on other bolt-ons (if you want to go this route) or better yet, put it towards a turbo. The mods you've listed are the automotive equivalent of earrings and new shoes to a fat ugly chick, you can glam her up all you want but until you get some plastic surgery and lipo, it's not going to do much.

As for the pulley the same wear and tear is shown on the stock pulley. Not to sure about the oil leaks though. What Im wanting is not a speed demon that will come later in life. Right now Im just wanting to up the HP to about 200hp with out turbo, lighten the car as much as I can with out really taking anything out IE the spare and such, just replace items with lighter items like the hood with a CF hood which RRM says its about 16lbs lighter than the stock hood. handling is one of my least conserns for now but after I bump up the HP I will have to upgrade the handling as well. what type of gains are normal for a better intake, header and exhaust? Im only expecting a max of 15hp.

Product - place- price.

Spark plugs- Pulstar- $100
Fujita intake- Auto City Imports- $185
Pulley- Road Race Motorsports- $119
Exhaust- Road Race Motorsports- $329
Oil Catch Can- Speed Corps- $65
FED Header- Road Race Motorsports- $399
HID Xenon lights- Auto City Imports- $300 (Dual high and low beams add $85)
CF EVO X style Hood-Auto City Imports- $589
CF Trunk Lid- Auto City Imports- $540
CF Engine accents- Road Race Motorsports- $327
Spings and Sway Bar- Works- $449

Also some advice on wheels. Im not sure what wheels can fit on the Lancer if anyone knows Please let me know. These are three rims I am debating on getting. Let me know how well you think they would go with the charcoal grey Lancer.

I currently do not own a Lancer but I test drove a GTS before I deployed and fell in love with it I haven’t been excited about a car before. I plan on purchasing the 09 Lancer once I return from overseas and would like any advice, reviews of products and tips anyone can offer. I don’t want the works exhaust due to it being so loud and looking like an oversized coffee can sticking out the back. I want a clean good sounding exhaust. I thank you in advance for yalls advice.
I'm going to be as respectful as I can, but also blunt and honest. I hope you don't mind.

The mod list you have is the basic "ricer who just got the car" list. Lots of crap, not much good. I'm just going to tick off one-by-one.

Spark plugs- Pulstar- Lord, no. Big waste of money.
Fujita intake- Auto City Imports- Not much HP/$ spent. IMO, a waste.
Pulley- Road Race Motorsports- Not a good idea until works out the pulley/seal issue (check the thread in the Engine forum)
Exhaust- Road Race Motorsports- OK, but not much gain.
Oil Catch Can- Speed Corps- Waste of time.
FED Header- Road Race Motorsports- Decent mod. Headers always make OK power.
HID Xenon lights- Auto City Imports- Bear in mind that the DRLs cannot be turned off. So you either run these 24-7 or rewire your car.
CF EVO X style Hood-Auto City Imports- Basic bling mod, lowers weight. I can't fault this.
CF Trunk Lid- Auto City Imports- See above.
CF Engine accents- Road Race Motorsports- Lots of money for stuff people won't ever see. Not my thing, but it won't hurt anything.
Spings and Sway Bar- Works- Good choice to upgrade the suspenion.

Wheels - I use 16" because the tires are affordable. The GTS has 18x7.5 stock, and that's a good size if you want to just keep them. If not, get a similar size 18x8 is always nice. Don't go too crazy-wide on the tires. Rubbing seems to come in around 235 or so.

Just my opinions, but I have been around Lancers for 5 years now...

Getting 200 hp NA is going to be very very hard, you're talking about a 50 hp gain without forcing air into the motor. My guess is you'll need a completely rebuilt motor including high compression pistons (11:1), very aggressive cams, lots of headwork to get the rev limiter up and various supporting mods to keep everything in one piece. I wouldn't be surprised if this alone cost more than 10000$. Lightening up the car is good in theory but realistically you're not going to drop enough weight to notice it, like Doug said, this is basically a support mod or a bling mod. I doubt you'll get 15 hp from just throwing an intake, header and exhaust on there, if you want that kind of gain, you need to get the car professionally tuned. The days of bolt-ons are quickly coming to an end.

hey dont worry about brutal honesty thats what Im looking for people who are experienced giving advice on what is and isnt nessisary with alternatives. what is a exstimate of what an intake header and exhaust would give HP wise? The tires above are the same 18x7.5 but they have som sort of off set not to sure what an off set is though.

Intake, header and exhaust? I'd guess 10whp total.

Offset is the distance between the mounting surface (where it meets the brake rotor to be bolted on) and the edge of the wheel. You want to make sure you stay close to stock (which is +45 or so) so that the wheels fit. Go to low and you'll hit the brake calipers and the wheel won't go on.

If you are going to talk further about the pulstar plugs I suggest you do it in the thread that I started some time ago. I am currently evaluating the plugs and so far have come up with somewhat promising results. The conclusion of my tests will be sometime at the end of this month as I rent the dyno for the day again from Four Star Motorsports.

Here is the pulstar plug thread...

Ok for those who have told me that I shouldnt get the RRM exhaust I emailed the good people at RRM and this is what they had to say.

For the 08 Lancer, we have started to paint all
components that are not stainless steel. That seems to have solved it.
It won't stop it forever but take a look at how rusty your stock
exhaust is. RRM

I inquired as to the problem with the pulley and so far only answer I have is that the stock pulley shows the same wear and tear. Also, now this is where I am needing user feed back, RRM claims that the header will give gains of about 10-15 HP according to the forum thear on the header. Has anyone tested this out yet I would love to actually know what the results are. Since the 09 Lancer is going to have in the 160's of HP that 10 would be awsome. Thanks.

a headers effectiveness is really at the mercy of the exhaust that comes behind it. Upgrading the exhaust is a 100% must if you do the header. So you will have to do baby steps, and upgrade the exhaust first, run with that for a while, then when you are looking for more power you will definately look forward to the header.

No offense to RRM but paint scrapes off. I don't personally see the point in buying an aftermarket exhaust that will just rust and look horrible like the stocker when you can get an all stainless steel unit elsewhere. The problem with the pulley is warranty work, if you get the RRM pulley and then show signs of oil leaking, Mitsubishi could very well blame the pulley and leave you SOL. Again no offense to RRM but they claimed these kinds of numbers on the previous generation lancer and it was proven time and time again to be false/overly optimistic.
Luda, NA motors are completely different than turboed motors. Once you start actively forcing air into a motor, backpressure shoots up thus explaining why less restrictive components show such high gains.

Ok for the pulley as I said before while doing my research I found a thread of someone who took their stock pulley off and put the RRM pulley on. After haveing the horrible oil leak he took the RRM pulley off and examined it at which time he noticed the groove that was made. Then he examined the stock pully which only had 4000 miles on it and it too had the same groove. Once RRM finishes looking into the issue and finalizes the results of if its mitsu engineering or the RRM pulley it self and a possible fix we can all have real peace of mind about it. With that said here is a quote from the good people at RRM.

"WE are looking at the issue but it is more a MItsu thing than a RRM
pulley thing. Have only heard of one leak to date. THis may be getting
exaggerated since it seems the same story from the same one guy is
getting repeated. We actually contacted engineers at Mitsu yesterday.
Pulley will be fine for a long time. RRM"

this quote was sent to me on the 21st and the quotes below are from the 14th of April.

Here is the link to that thread like RRM says its probably a mitsu thing since only
.1% have informed them of an issue. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...RM+pulley+leak

On top of all this there was a TSB issued here is the link to that forum.

I still have faith in RRMs capabilities.

RRM can't do anything about the pulley issue. The problem is that the motor was designed wrong. RRM can't combat that unless they make a pulley V2 that comes with a replacement seal as well...

We all have faith in RRM's capabilities. But there's a difference between being a fanboy and being a realist...
