Thinking about bailing on my 08' GTS...has anyone sold or traded their 08' GTS?

I have several reasons that I'm thinking about selling or possibly trading in my 08' Lancer GTS (Nav & Tech) which has ~10k miles on it. The pulling to the left issue...the thin paint...and a few more things that I completely don't like about the car (probably best not to get me started).

Has anyone done the same? Anyone have a ballpark figure that I should be looking at getting?

Family budgeting constraints are also on my mind as we are trying to get our budget under control and saving more for the golden years. More than likely just looking to sell it...don't want (or need) another car payment if I can help it.

I know I'll lose some cash...but I almost think it's worth it to be rid of this car. The car looks good on the outside, but everything else about Mitsu has left me with a bad taste in my mouth to say the least.

I'm going to take it into a local (LA) Carmax this weekend or next just to see what they quote me...I know that I could probably do better on my own, so we'll just go from their quote first. Carmax has actually suprised me in the past (used them to up a trade-in quote with a dealer on a Nissan Armada I traded in...as Carmax was going to give me about $3k more than anyone else would...)

Anyone else in the same boat?

Thx for any/all feedback...

Mike

I wouldn't hold your breath with carmax on this car. I've talked to a guy that sold me my first lancer from there and he showed me what carmax would give me for my car. Prepare to eat 2-3k, easy. These things just really don't move very fast as a used car, atleast they dont YET anyway.

I tried to get out of this car shortly after I traded my EVO. Thought I was out of my freaking mind and went into panic mode but never could get anything reasonable (expected). Good luck though, hopefully you'll get what you need or atleast close to it!

who goes and spends 16+G's on a car and then says... "hmm, maybe I dont want it".. Not a smart move. Cant help yah with what to do. If your trying to save money its a bad idea to go upside down a few thousand on a car.

2-3K??? try around 8-10K!!

Think about it.... Carmax has to sell the vehicle thousands of dollars back of what they go for brand new (CarMax needs to sell it used for about $4K back of a brand new minimum in order to be appealing for someone to buy it used) Plus used cars cant get the same low finance rate a new car can.

Then factor in your 10K miles so that is about another grand off...

Then factor in that carmax is gonna want to make a profit on the vehicle( they are a business and need to pay to advertise, keep the lights on, and pay associates) so they are gonna probably sell it for about $3K more than they give to you.

So add that up and its at least a $8K loss from what you paid.

Nothing personal, its just business. Thats why you should never try to trade in a current model year vehicle.

Guys, trust me..I understand all of this...really.

And it's not that I don't want it...not at all. Beautiful car (on the outside).

#1) We are now in a position where we don't need 2 cars...and it will stay that way for the next 3-4 years (minimum 3).

#2) Have had a ton of problems, most notably the "pulling to the left" issue which is now back after having gone away for the past couple months...had this problem since driving off the lot basically.

#3) Despite looking good, the car feels VERY cheap on the inside...so much so that I actually have started hating driving it.

#4) Despite looking great on the outside, the "thin paint" is just ridiculously a cosmetic problem that it just annoys the hell outta me.

Oh well, we'll see...I'm married, no kids (that I know of anyway)... so I might as well see what we can do.

Trust me, I won't let myself get raped by Carmax...or by anyone at all after selling or trading it off myself...if it's an acceptable loss (acceptable is different for everyone).

Just throwing this out there to see if anyone has happened to sell or trade theirs in...that is all.

Guys this has been beat to death we pay more here, around 20 % more. we dont have evos before the X so there is no used evo option.

Just go for the private sale. You sound mature enough that you KNOW you're going to get screwed doing a trade-in. And you just said you don't need two cars. So why bother doing something you know not to? Pop it in the driveway with a FOR SALE sign and see what happens.

+1

it doesn't sound like ur in a rush or struggling for the cash, so just find a good spot on a busier road and let it sit for a while..

it should generate some interest..hopefully

good luck whatever you do

Just what Blacksheepdj said, pop it on a driveway with a FOR SALE sign and post it on craigslist.com (locally), it's free so you got nothing to lose. I am more than sure you will get more out of it than from CarMax.

I never understand this, people make a 30,000 $ investment and as soon as there is a little trouble, they are ready to jump ship over the railing and lose 8000?
you do figure that for all your going thru, you better off holding on to your car?
You know depending on where your paint problem is, if it can be proven that it is a fault in the paint, there is certain recourse. If your car pulls to the left, you can have an offset to your suspension that can counter pull to the right.

You make it sound like, This car is TERRIBLE, I dont defend or attack the lancer, to me I see it as a value buy. You have to admit you get a huge bundle of goodies for what your paying for. And all the problems wrong with the car are hardly deal breakers. if you need help talking to mitsubishi about some of your issues let me know. I have a few suggestions

Sell it Privately (YOU). You'll get more out of it.
