Looking to purchase a Lancer

Hi. I was looking into trading in my Scion xB for a new Lancer. Nothing fancy, just the regular ES model (automatic transmission). Can anyone tell me how they are? Any major problems? I've heard that the gas mileage is actually closer to 30mpg rather than the 28mpg listed. That's the only thing that's preventing me from trading in my xB. I get about 34mpg now and with the ridiculous gas prices, it's really important.

If anyone can give me some insight, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

i usually get low 30s in my gts (2.4L) manual so i imagine the 2.0L auto will get about the same.

hmm, I hardly touch the 30mpg mark in my Lancer CVT '08. I do all city driving though, and average about 300 +/- a few.

Thanks guys! I plan on test driving it either sometime this weekend or it'll have to wait until I come back from vacation in mid-June.

I have been looking up reviews from different websites about the Lancer and everyone seems to rave about it. How is it with repairs? Are parts expensive? I find that the cheaper the car, the more expensive it is to repair. I remember having my 2001 Hyundai Elantra a few years ago and every repair cost me more and more money. But then again Hyundai's, in my opinion, are crap cars.

Not sure how long you plan on keeping it but the warranty is about twice the duration of the Scion warranty.

Bumper to Bumper: 5 yr. / 60,000 mi.
Drivetrain: 10 yr. / 100,000 mi.
Roadside: 5 yr. / Unlimited mi.
Rust: 7 yr. / 100,000 mi.

There is also a 7 yr. / 100,000 mi. Bumper to Bumper warranty offered at time of purchase, depending how long you plan to keep it.

I would definitely go with the 2009 since the 2.4L engine seems to be much better of the 2008's 2.0L. My dealership gave me a ride to my house and back today and it was in a 08 and the 2.0L is very sluggish (talking automatic here compared to my automatic).

Great, thanks!

I definitely want an automatic. I don't think I'm coordinated enough to drive stick LOL. I would look into an extended warranty, as I drive...A LOT. I already have 50,000 miles on my Scion and I haven't even had it 2 years yet...hence why I want to trade it in. I love my xB dearly, but they've discontinued the 1st generation xB's and I am not a fan of the 2nd gen.

Thanks again

I get 30mpg on the highways, and 25mpg in the city regularly. And thats in the heavier GTS model. The ES should be even better.

Unless your going to get the 09 GTS model with the larger engine, you should just look to get a really awesome deal on an 08 ES. Dealers need to get those last 08s off the lot so you might be able to get one for a steal. Otherwise, just go for the 09 GTS, the larger engine gives it the added power the previous models needed.

Might want to consider a manual, the lancers are very easy to drive and shift great. Learning manual driving really only takes a few days. You will be able to drive around with total confidence after about a week and then it just becomes second nature.

not so sure you're going to get a steal on an 08 econ box since that's what everyone wants right now.

i get around 60mpg, but if you don't want a manual transmission car you probably wont want to learn how to ride a bike
