Is the Nav system worth it?

I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can either sell my car to a dealership and buy a used 08 Lancer GS with Sun/Sound for $18,995 which has 22k miles on it.

Or i could buy a brand new ES Lancer with both packages on it(Sport and Sun/Sound)

ES is in my color(Black) and the Lancer is in Silver.

Which car is the better deal? I was hoping to get a GTS in black with the Sun/Sport and Navigation.

Is Navigation even worth it?

That is if i wanted to sell my car to the dealer. If i go private party than i may be able to get a GTS fully loaded to fit my budget.

Depends on how much you need to use a navigation system. I used to have a portable one with my old car and it wasnt that great. When I bought my Lancer, I figured I would sell the portable one and upgrade to the optional build in system. With the nav package you also get the FAST key so you never need to take your key out of your pocket. Since I live in Boston and do a lot of driving the Nav was definitely needed and its really a great system in general. Also a lot of people say the lancer doesnt have a very upscale interior, but with that system touch screen and all, it really makes the lancer seem like a top of the line vehicle.

I would say that the Navi is definitely worth it. It has a very appealing display. The only downside to it, is that when you search for a particular Point of Interest, you may not find it in there. My Navi can't locate a single Starbucks in Dallas. I find that hard to believe. But if you would be using it for the map aspect of it, it is certainly a must. I will never own a car without a build in Navigation system. No more handheld Garmin for me!

Get the Nav!!!!

It makes a mediocre vehicle into an exceptional vehicle. Even from a purely aesthetic standpoint, it turns an Econobox into something more high end. When i took a few of my friends for a ride, thats the FIRST thing they noticed.

Plus you'll never need to get directions from anybody. All you'll need is the address, punch it in, and off you go. No more fumbling with printed directions from mapquest or yahoo.

Very worth it and makes the car look a little less economy. Aside from the nav, you can customize everything in the Lancer with the screen, my doors unlock when I hit Park, my wipers go faster if I go over a certain speed, I unlock all doors with the FAST key, it's so customizable! I love it.

It is worth it for what you get out of it as far as being able to customize the options like MusicaChick said. I love the fast key feature. I almost traded my car in for a Civic SI last weekend but I couldn't stand not having fast key.

The only real downsides for me was that my iPod doesn't integrate into the nav and the 30 HDD doesn't store mp3s. It takes forever for that thing to rip a cd to the HDD.

I love the navi, its hard for me to live without one. The main reason I wouldn't go aftermarket is because it always seems out of place, and aftermarket ones can't control everything in the car or log information such as average mpg, distance since last refuel, or show you a/c information. The only thing its missing is integrated ipod control, If I could skip tracks and see song information on my navi screen from my ipod, it would be the best thing in the world. Not to mention the steering wheel controls, blue-tooth hands free phone integration that can store address and phone numbers, and the dvd play back.

Summary, its very much worth it.

6GB of the hdd stores mp3s, the other is used for the map and other system options. I'd rather have that than a cd to put in and out for nav.

How long do you consider 'forever'? If I put a cd into the car and go to my girls house which is 10 minutes away, its already finished ripping. I don't know about you, but I think thats kinda quick for it to rip 15 or so songs.

The only change i think they should do is to make it so you can burn Mp3s or transfer songs to the hard drive from your Ipod.

Mp3 cds can hold around 100 songs and at least from my experience burn a little faster.

Hopefully i will be in a Lancer GTS soon enough.

From what I understand the Nav doesn't rip the files into MP3s but some other format, but my point was if you could just load folders onto the HDD it would be much faster. It usually takes my Nav about 15 minutes to rip an entire CD. I use my iPod for all of my music needs anyway so it is really doesn't affect me but if you could drag and drop folders I would use it more.
