Turbos are Illegal For the Lancer?!?

I just got off the phone with this guy that sells turbos for all kind of cars and I asked him if it will pass smog, he said yes pretty much all turbos will pass smog, but they are illegal in California. I asked him why and he said its just a law and if a cop hears the Blow off valve they will pull you over and take your car forever. SO WHATS THE DEAL WITH THAT??

You have CARB to thank for that. Not all are illegal however. You don't want to VTA anyway with the stock ECU. Your car will bog severely when you let off the accelerator.

Road Race is in the process (or may be finished now actually) of having their kits approved by CARB.

Yes RRM's Kit is in the works. I have some final testing to do but we can all say thank you to the government for being so damn slow. I have been working on this for to damn long and boy do they drag their feet over at the Air Resource Board.

Patience is a virtue but if they dont hurry up I might snap.

They are only illegal if you get caught, right?

What CHP is gonna ask a Lancer driver to pop their hood?

Hmmm. Vince is doing us all a great favor. He gets mad props.

Rob, too.

Our current BOV is non-recirculating and does not vent to the atmosphere.

CHP might hear you go w00t w00t as you pass a stock WRX tho.

Yeah you are only gonna have a problem if you get pulled over and get your hood popped. Even at that it is usually an emissions ticket not an impound.

Trouble also is when you have to smog your car in 5 years (or whatever it is). You will either have to return your car to stock or register non-op and never get pulled over in the car.

Vince, haven't you already been pulled over like 2 or 3 times since putting that hood on your car? Can't wait to hear of when they actually do see something representing performance down there. I can already hear your voice going "ah-ah-ah" as you point to the CARB sticker and be on your way
