Yeah, especially on a brand new car while you're breaking in the engine. Not only that, but your gas mileage is going to be **** poor. I'd highly recommend shifting lower. All you'd have to show for it would be a lot of noise and a little more torque.

damn...

2003 OZ's? are they gonna be better than our 2002? I can't have some new OZ kick my *** in a race! They better not have more hp! (ours is pretty ****ty... 120? eww) I'm working on changing that little problema on mine! (that is, once I pay for my OUTSTANDING ticket) oops. Is the body gonna be any diffrent besides an optional sunroof? I was looking to get one installed, but after all this craziness of that bar, I think I'll pass, untill I can find some way around that haha

As for shifting, my car is an automatic, but yeah, listen to the engine, when it gets higher pitched, you'll get the hang of how your car handles, and then you can blast the tunes and still shift! haha

Agreed. Taking it to redline every 45 seconds is not good for econoboxes.

Yeah, thanks for all the help, now I'm really torn about the sunroof because I really want one, but I don't know if I want to mess with that whole situation of the roof. Maybe I'll just use the money to do something else...add a spoiler, tint the windows...but a sunroof would be nice

Thanks for the advice about shifting, I think i'll probably just go with what pjal recommended in the beginning. What i meant by downshifting was when you get off the highway and go from 75 to 45 to 25. Someone told me that if your RPMs dropped below 2000 (that seems to high though) or 1500 you should shift down atleast a gear (not to use as breaking, but so you are ina better power band) does that seem about right?

Thanks again

oh yeah, those pictures of a sunroof on that silver ES didn't help in me deciding not to get one because of safety/handling precautions

oh hell no not 5-6!!!

I only have 325 miles on my Lancer, and I will admit that I've peeled out way too much, and even redlined it under 10 times in attempts to get a quick liftoff...

But I quote pjal:

"There's a difference between breaking your car in, and breaking it."

And that's freakin' true...I've been more easy with my car, especially due to the fact that everytime I get out, the door SHOCKS me. My Lancer's pissed for my abusing it! Gets me everytime!!! Jesus, will it stop if I stop driving it as hard?! I say..Yes.

Shift like this if you need a reference:

1st - 2.5-3.5
2nd - same
3rd - 3.0-4.0
4th same
5th - whatever
6th - oops..

Is it like a static shock or a flowing electrical current shock? I don't think that's EVER happened to me. Is it possible there's a loose wire making contact with the chassis or body or something? Good thing neither of you wear pacemakers.

What the hell?! I've been getting shocked too. Maybe we should start a support group for people getting juiced by their Lancers.

We're a sad lot. People who are afraid of being hurt by their Lancer. Congrats Amanda, admitting you have a problem is the first step towards recovery. I suggest bringing Lance to the meeting next time to further open the lines of communication.
