Buy an old Honda, learn on it, THEN worry about your future Evo. As long as you have motor skills above the level of a 3 y/o. I wouldn't suggest learning on your Evo though. Find a more forgiving, and more importantly, less expensive car to learn on.

Talk about lack of foresight ...Clutch down, Turn key, Pick a gear (1st or Reverse depending on what you're doing), Gas down, clutch up slowly and go. Now shifting through the gears is easier than going from dead stops...There's no replacement for genuine practice.

my g/f learned her first MT lesson in a brand new Bimmer at the dealership, taught by the salesperson....then she end up getting something else...

Like others have said, it's not all that difficult, practice more and you'll be fine

Have a good friend with a VW bug teach you. If you can drive one of those, you can drive anything that's how I learned.

Thanks Everyone, But I've Got Bad News...

I Plan On Practicing On My Lancer, Only Because I Have No Other Means of Practicing Or Getting My Hands On An Old Or Used MT Car. I Have Been Reading Up On How To Quite Often, And I Hope That Is Enough For Me To Get The Idea. My Friends Don't Want Me To Practice On Their Talon's And Eclipses

Reading and doing are two completely different things. The principle is simple, it's the coordination that takes time to build. Your car, your transmission. Toss some coffee beans in the tranny so at least the grinding will be productive.

Enjoy the rich columbian flavor.

If you can afford an Evo, then you can afford a $500 POS to practice on like an old Toyota or something. Just sell it when your done with it.

just remember its better to burn the clutch then to force it into gear. clutches are much cheaper then tranny internals.

I would seriously consider the extended warranty on your EVO though

Don't be frightened by all these guy's cringes and aughs. My friend baught a 2002 WRX and didn't know how to drive a MT. Although another friend let him drive his old probe a couple hours before he actually picked it up. The first couple days were rough, but not bad enough to hurt anything. He picked it up quick so I don't think you'll have any problems.
