its his credit...its under his name for insurance... im paying for it... he might drive it sometimes... but im trying to talk him into getting a manual because we all know that its better, even though it might be a distraction to some people or seem harder to drive...

What do you want to do with the car. Are you into Auto-x, Drag, Rally etc.

The automatic for a Lancer aint bad. The adaptive shift technology lets you "program" the gears to change at redline if you keep your foot heavy on the gas.

You should push for the manual then. That is my advice.

Also, do you know specifically what modification(s) you plan on doing to add 130hp to the car? It won't be cheap. Exhaust/intake won't even get you close.

well some people told me i gotta get rid of an intake if i get a turbo so
thats out... first thing i plan on getting is a short shifter then little parts until i get a turbo, unless some1 would be able to give me a list of what i can get now without it affecting a turbo install. i see it like this. why waste money on parts now that ill have to remove later and resell when i get a turbo? so if theres not anything big i can get now that'll help i guess ill order my zenon kit whichll get here in like 2 months and stuff. im going to do alot of mods and also dress up so im not ricing hehehe. anyway can some1 compile a list of whats out now that i can get without it affecting a turbo install? maybe include links to the site, prices and what itll do for performance. id really appreciate it. i know its a lot to do but if you really wanna help some1 out thats what you guys can do for me. by the way after i get my car probably this week maybe we can do something on the eastcoast like they did on the west. meet up one day with our lancers, drive around, trade ideas just have some fun. im in ny now moving to jersey soon.... every1 reply back
thanx

I am not even sure if anyone has put a turbo on a US Lancer yet, so I think it would be difficult to answer you specifically. However, I am sure there are some generalities that you could find out.

Anyhow, I plan on buying an Evo, and modifying it...and here is what I did. I researched the car and the potential modifications in detail for about a few weeks. I read every single post, on every single Lancer Evo bulletin board on the web dating back over a year. I took notes, printed out important posts and compiled my own little diary of information. When I felt confident enough to ask legitimate questions I did..but not until I had spent the time researching it on my own. Just about any question you can raise has probably been asked and answered somewhere...and most of your issues will get resolved this way. That doesn't mean you can't ask questions, but it does mean you should spend a tiny bit of your own time doing some of the work yourself.

Upgrading a Lancer to accomodate a turbo is not a small job, and would require a decent amount of work done by a competent tuner, assuming you want the job done right. There is much more that needs to be done than just strapping on a turbo and going. I think there is pretty much a consensus here that by putting in all this time and money to get 250hp is probably not worth it..when you could just wait and buy an Evo. This has been discussed ad nauseum right here in this forum. The price difference(after all the mod's on the Lancer) will be roughly the same..if not more.

In reality, as much as people might like to deny it, the US Lancer is not really the best car to do extensive modifications to. This does not make it a bad car, in fact its a GREAT vehicle. But if you truly plan on racing, as you say, then unless you have VERY deep pockets you will probably be better off just buying an Evo up front..as the amount of time, money and problems you will have to deal with by modifying a Lancer will not be worth it.

Just my 2 cents.

oh i know that the parts will probably come up to maybe a little less than a stock evo but the problem i have is a) i need a car now b) my father wont spend that much on a new car cause its my first car insurance would kill me to c) if i mod a lancer its on my own time i choose what i want and when i wanna do it. basically im more free with a lancer if you understand what im saying. id take an evo over most cars xcept a skyline ( my cousin has a gtr34 in australia its sicc im going there maybe next summer cant wait) but besides that id buy a evo if i could. but its the wrong timing. i already know what i wanna do looks wise but engine modding seems to be a bit harder lol. money wouldnt be a problem on parts oi mean if i really want it id be able to get it by asking my grandparents.... oh by the way the Sopranos on HBO just rented out her mansion in kearny new jersey and are filming a episode there and shes getting paid!!!!!!!! cha ching time to ask is now lol

In the last issue of SCC there is a turbo Lancer OZ, I think by Rhys Millen.

Look around the site dude, there is a lot of info on products for the Lancer, just do some searches. As for your plans to make it as fast as possible for street racing I would agree that turbo is probably the best way to go.

Why not set the car up for track days, or auto-x? It's cheaper, tons more fun, lots more skill involved, and it's legal. Anyone can fast in a straight line. Just my 2 cents, I think street racing is dumb.

i have a automatic and i still spank the civics from the neighborhood (cept this one EX and of course the Si)....my dad aswell got the auto and then i took it over. I plan on doing some minor things.....I happy with the AUTO...theres a slot "3" that uses the actual powerband that everyone talks about hitting with manual...ur not loosing out on much with the auto, i happen to think its quite fine...but i still prefer manual.
