Question Towing

I feel stupid asking this, but I feel this is the best place to get the answer.

I've got an 09 Lancer GTS. I really don't want to get rid of it. However, I would like to purchase a jetski/waverunner in the near future. Would it be a bad idea to two it with the Lancer, also considering that the lake is about an hour an a half from here.

The reason I am asking is I have had mixed responses.

I would think that if the mass of the trailer is less than the towing capacity, you should be fine.

I would buy like a beater truck or old suv for this purpose. I believe the transmission is the main concern with towing, it puts quite a load on it which makes it generate more heat than it can handle. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong.

My friend put a class one hitch on his Miata and towed extra tires and such to auto cross meets. Never had a problem. I would think the lancer would be the same way, just don't haul anything too heavy.

I wanted to tow a trailer w/ my lancer too. I asked my dealer and they said it would void your warranty if you towed ANYTHING with the lancer. I found an '85 ram that still runs for $250 and it works perfect for the few weekends I need it.
