Anybody worry about 1st year EVO quality?
Anybody worry about 1st year EVO quality?
Just wondering if anybody has any concerns of the first year EVO when it becomes avaliable.
I was just surfing the web on the new e46 M3. Looks like some people are have their M3's engine gone bye-bye on them with under 5000 miles.
Either BMWNA was claiming the ECU over-revs or lack-of-oil on the customer part. The over-revs issue was also seen on the SMG-II tranny as well (design of over-rev is impossible, unless design-flaw), ECU is ****ty, or BMWNA's bs to same $20k for engine replacement.
Since most likely the FMIC might be gone, the design could change from the JPN/EURO spec that it could affect reliability.
Just wanted to find out what you guys think about all these warranty BS.
If
done their customers once, what could stop them again from claiming customer flaw with false ECU reading?

Excellent points, but I think that the Evo has been out long enough in both Japan and Europe to work out any potential bugs. I don't expect a major change between the Jap version and ours. It is the same engine, same design etc.
As such, I am not worried at all.
Moreover, I plan on dumping that stock ECU anyhow for a fully programmable one. Gotta hit 1.5 bars of boost with no fuel cut!

I'm kinda worried. Did any of you catch the WRC when I believe (correct me if i'm wrong) evo 7 first ran? The car didn't even finish. I believe it had transmission problems. Tommi was so pissed with the car. From that point, evo 7 didn't finish top 5.
Yes I'm worried.

Not to worry. Those rally cars are far from stock. Most parts have probably been swapped out for heavier duty custom parts. I am just guessing on this, but I am sure it takes a while for the team to configure a winning car...everybody probably has mechanical problems at first.
Unless anyone plans to use the US E7 for a rally car, you shouldn't worry.

Personally, I'm really not worried about it either. Like Mordith said,
has had more than enough time to work out all the bugs out of the Evo. Even if they do move the FMIC, that would really only more of a plumbing issue if anything. And as far as the WRC is concerened, once again that car is far from stock. In fact, the
team had already dubbed the 2002 season as a year of development. Granted they had major problems last year, (including the enormous accident Tommi had in corsica) keep an eye on them towards the end of the WRC....you just may see
getting points again.

not just 1st year...id be worried if i purchased any mitsubishi car no matter how many years that particular model has been released...too many past problems that have left doubts in the minds of most ppl...plus ive heard first hand from a japanese guy who was visiting america on business that the evo7 has many minor problems...

WRC has nothing to do with the stock EVO VII. WRC cars cost about $1'000'000 and are built cmpletely different than the EVo VII you can buy. But then there's Group N. which is more like the production class and there the EVO is just dominating. They are anihilating the competition and no one an follow
. That is why the car is such a legend as a raly car and this is why I love it to death.
