Guys. Just wondering on your thoughts.

There have been thread before about [my own wording]
1. we don't care about MPG because this is a sports car.
2. we need the EVO to be under $30k or forget it.

Here is one question that no one asked.
If it is say $29,995 as a total package, would you still take it?
I mean before the gas guzzler tax....

So let's assumed it is 20MPG average. That is another $1700 to account for.

Since this is an approximate calculation, the actual gas guzzler tax may be off by one tax bracket.

Excellent analysis dipper. There certainly would be a logical inconsistency in peoples thinking if they said both:

1. we don't care about MPG because this is a sports car.
2. we need the EVO to be under $30k or forget it.

and the MPG on the car ended up low. As there is a cost of paying more to drive, and that should definately be considered when calculating the overall cost of the car(and monthly payments).

Here is my take though. I hope the car is ABOVE $30k, and don't care much for the gas mileage.(assuming it isn't TOO bad)

Why? Not because I am rich, because I am not. But because as soon as we get above $30k, all the teenie bopper kiddies will automatically not buy the car...and it will keep the car somewhat unique and the image not tarnished. I think it will be worth every extra penny, and would happily pay it.

Hoping for +$30k!

I think most people who are seriously considering an evo, and have bought a car before have an idea of all the additional taxes and charges involved with a car, expecially new ones.. I've generally had to pay around 10% of the final price of tha car for all the stupid stuff like taxes, tags, inspections, transportation, etc... Im hoping the car will be around 27-28k so the final net price will be around 30k... as for the gas guzzler tax, yeah it would suck if we missed the cutoff by 2 MPG, lets hope they use that gdi engine and its more economical

 

Don't forget possible luxury taxes depending upon the cost of the Evo when it finally is released. Someone else had mentioned this before in another thread. Something like if the car is over $32,000 I believe you will have an additional 10% luxury tax on top of your state taxes. The word "costly" comes to mind.

 

the luxury tax doesn't kick in till 40K I believe, My parents Mazda Millenia was like 38,000 and it didn't have the luxo tax, but there bravada did and it was over 40

 

Interesting. Is that a federal thing or is it done state by state? Gotta look into this for curiousity's sake.

 

Hoping for the higher price just so long kids can't be able to afford them? Someone needs serious help, and/or is sick in the head.
No matter the price being $28k or $32k, if the kids parents are rich and he/she is a spoiled little bastard, those kiddies will get it.

The Energy Tax Act of 1978 established a Gas Guzzler Tax on the sale of new model year vehicles whose fuel economy fails to meet certain statutory levels. The gas guzzler tax applies only to cars (not trucks) and is collected by the IRS.

So it is an IRS/federal tax.

As for the luxury tax. It will be gone starting 2003.
I think this year is tax at 3% above $38k difference. [Federal tax as well].

 

Let's put it in this perspective, I know a spoiled kid, 17, will get the EVO when it comes provided by parents whether the price is $30k or $38K plus. Now let's assume the price is $38k, that leaves me (a full-time, mid-twenties person) without a ride of my dreams. As for the spoiled brat, he's got a nice ride and I'm left with my Honda. And so you may think kiddies won't get the car, however, a higher price will leave many people in my position with no car and rich kids with A CAR. I'm hoping it stays at $30k.

 

agree with EvoSoul, I'm hoping for a 30k ish price...rich kids will get whatever they want and an extra 8k isn't too much of a deterrent to a rich kid.

 

I agree that $30K is a good price, but anything much lower than that, I would be concerned.

 

Good point Evosoul. I do not want it to be unaffordable to average adults such as yourself(and me for that matter).

But in my experience, once the car gets above $30k, all the teenie bopper kiddies fall off, and we don't see one on every corner. For some reason it seems to be a universal cutoff. It's just one of those things. Also, the rich kids will NOT be looking at Evo's anyhow. There is much better to be had if you are truly "rich".

I personally would like to see $30-32k.

And how did your parents pay 38,000 of a Millenia???? My dad just got a 2002 Millenia Type S and only paid 31,000 and its fully loaded, even if you go to the website it shouldn't be 38,000 www.mazdausa.com

I have a different view on this! I hope the cars is as cheap as possible, that way I may be able to afford more mods.

As far young buyers, we have this whit every car hotter car. That fact kids will be driving the car does not bother me, the fact they will crash the cars and make insurance go up bothers me.
