hello, i have a 2009 lancer gts, it is currently like -48 with the windchill and at work i had to cold start my car with no cord. i let it run for an hour then turned it off then started it about an hour before i was to leave work. it was idling fine then and it drove fin but as i got closer to home i stoped at a red light and looked at the RPMS and they where jumping from like regular idle to like 300 then back up, and it kept doing this till i started off then it drove fine no weird nosies when i got home i parked and looked down again and it was doing it again so i would rev it and it would be fin untill it came back down to idling then it was all over the map. Could this just be bad gas or cold weather or what?

Not sure about the rpm change... how quickly and how often did it change? It will normally do that a bit while idling.
But also... idling your car for an hour at a time isn't the best thing for it. You only really need like 10 mins to warm it up.
Whats the temp? (wind chill is a guage for living beings for how it feels. actual temperature applies here) -48 is horribly cold! I thought it was bad for me with 8 (dunno the wind chill, but it is as cold as the proverbial witch's HIDs)

 

yea min jumps to around 1500 rpms at start for a couple of seconds then idles down to fast then really slow but in five minutes when the car warms it sits just fine. also once in a while when its really cold the needle just jumps up fast down slow up fast but not as high then sits just fine when the car gets warmed up but my 09 corolla xrs does this as well i believe it does that to warm up the car

 

today it was -63 with the windchill and it set a record that was being held since 1963 here in saskatoon and the idling was really radical like jumping for normal idling down to say 300 then back up to normal then back down to 300 really fast but today i started it more through the day and put stp gas treament in it and now its idling fin but thanks for your help and my car was also radicaly idling warm it wasnt cold.. cheers guys thanks
