yeah the base lancers are 95% simlar to how the X looks, its just the reputation/demeanor that comes with the Evo that makes it attractive to me. I'd say in general the X isnt really a traditionally attractive car, but its got a different look with the performance to back it up. without the performance its just a "meh" looking car.

STItoEVOX how bout u stick to the Evo forums and don't come to the lancer forums talking crap about our cars when this thread was just about black vinyl for the front bumper. I'm sorry if I'm not as loaded as you to be able to afford an Evo. I work super hard putting my wife and I through school while working a full time job and supporting my kids and because of that I can only afford an unattractive granny sedan as you would make it out to be. There is a reason isn't selling an 09 X, is because very few buy them. My local dealer has had 2 X's since last April that they can't sell for the life of them. Maybe you should take it as a compliment that we want to make our cars look like yours. And as you said our car is 95% the same looks wise as yours, so why waste $40K on an ugly car?

 

jesus guys take it easy, i merely posed an opinion and a question hoping somebody could give me a reason from their point of view why one would make their lancer look like an evo. hell some of you guys probably make more money than i do. im in the military, believe me i am not loaded, i just deployed for what came out to be a few years to be able to afford nice cars... and the reason for no 09 X is due mostly to the fact that since the 08 was released so late here in North America it would not have benefited them to release such a short run of 09's. and i didnt "waste" $40k on an ugly car, im financing $36k for an amazing performing car with decent looks. not in any of the responses to my post did anybody try to give a reason or answer to why i originally said i dont like lancers. these forums are for information and learning, you guys had a chance to INFORM me why you love your lancers but instead you took offense to what i had to say.

once again, i apologize for dragging this thread off topic. and im sure if i seen some of your lancers, with all the mods that are in some of you guys' signature, they would actually look a lot better than my car... i look forward to giving props to any car on this forum, from base lancers to Evo MR's where they are due.

 

you just can't come down here and do the "i dont like lancers" crap and get away without a even a hint of disagreement from fellow lancer owners. you just dont. you started to stir the pot, move on, im pretty sure most evo owners don't "hate" a regular lancer. we respect those people.

 

Blah blah blah, just school me on what makes a lancer good, what swayed you guys to buy it as opposed to it's competition? also why people make lancers look like evos, I'm not saying anything wrong with it, it's just not my cup of tea.

 

I bought mine because I personally liked the way mine looked inside and out. It's my first car so the ES model is perfect for me . Anywho; think about it, Evo X's are rare as it is, no? So why not buy parts and funky pieces of vinyl to make a non evo x look like a more rare performance car? Don't people do that to civics ---> SI? wrx --->sti? It's just a template that people choose to go by. Not speaking for anyone else but the Lancer is just fine for me, and the mods are a bonus

I've owned 3 Mitsubishi's before this one (2 regular Galants and a GVR4). I need a daily driver - so I went with Mitsubishi as I have done in the past because I find them to be very reliable and easy to fix. The '08 is actually really good value for money, so the choice was easy. And nobody here made their Lancer look like an Evo - did most of the work for us.

But people mod cars for a lot of different reasons: every answer to that question is going to be different. Making one car look similar to another isn't something that's unique to Mitsubishi and the almighty, infallible, Evolution, either: The dude down the street from me has an "M3"...you can still see the dirt outline from where the "325i" badge was

 

did you ever notice that other word on your car.. the one before evolution...it says LANCER your not that bright to say you dont like lancer when you drive one yourself.

 

thanks to the guys who actually gave really good reasons, and I agree with those reasons. Brand loyalty due to good prior experiences, and the lancer fitting exactly what you needed. And I know there are worst things in the world than the lancer--> evo deal like the idiots who do the "m3 conversion" to their civics and stuff.

 

I got the lancer because I was looking for a comfortable auto X car. In Autocross all you really need is about 200whp, and a great handling car. The base Lancer (DE, ES, GTS) Chassis is 51% STIFFER than the Evo IX Chassis. When you buy a car you can mod the power, suspension, interior, ect. But you really can't mod the chasis to be better, especially 51% better than a car known for legendary handling such as the Evo IX. With the Lancer I was also able to get the sun and sound package and the navigation package for about $23k. I've got nothing but compliments and praise from the people who see it. People stare at it as they walk by and I think that's pretty cool. Just yesterday I was in the parkingl ot and a guy with 2 kids couldn't stop staring at my car as they walked to their car.

As far as performance, other than Civic SI's the lancer can keep up or outperform any car in it's class. Tc's, Mazda 3's, Impreza's, non si civics, non ss cobalts, sentra's, camry's, ect. can be beat by the lancer without much effort. And I personally like the look of the Lancer the best out of all those cars I listed.

So the sum up, the Lancer is one of the best cars in its class, Shares the same chassis as the Evo X minus the reinforcements, Looks great, One of the safest cars ever, and as far as Demeanor and heritage, it still has a Rally Inspired heritage and a history that is similar to an Evo. The first 9 Evo's were lancers that got an AWD swap and a turbo. It has has great luxuries such as the blue-tooth, great navigation system with lots of tools, F.A.S.T key, and satellite radio.

Back on topic, The blackout kit looks pretty good. I don't think its just an evo thing tho, I've seen several Scion Tc's, Civics, Neons, Mazda3's, and GTI's black out their front bumper the same way. I think it just looks good, weather the evo had it or not.

 

I think everyone can agree that the new design of the Lancer is superior to the old one off which the IX and VIII are based... Now lets hold hands and sing

 

Holy crap I didn't know all that about the lancer and it's competition. And btw the evo VI, like the X, was an awd-t built platform instead of an upgrade from the fwd n/a setup, you are correct about the others.

As for the blackout kit +1000, I love blacked out cars and the murdered out look. Like Wesley Snipes says, always bet on black haha.

It's rare to see fellow Evo owners stand up for that one car called a Lancer.

It's even funnier when the Evo owners talk trash about the Lancer as if they don't drive one.
