Dealing with Dealerships - Car Delivered w. 300 miles on it

Hey everyone, I am in the process of having my old Jeep traded in for the CARS program. The dealership searched high and low for a GTS without sun and sound. I called the dealership looking to hear an update on the status of my CARS information. The car was delivered today but there is one problem for me... the car has 300 miles on it.

Is this a major issue, I'm pretty pissed off.

yeah... I went down to see the car and test drive it and I am now livid. The car has 435 miles on it.

I am a moron though and my age is showing (or my ignorance)

1.) I put a down payment of 500 dollars to have the car transferred and secured.
2.) part of the CARS program meant signing the title over, or so thats what they told me. They can transfer the title back but who knows how much b/s im going to have to go through to get that.

I tested the car and it drives perfectly but I was in sticker shock when I saw 435 f'n miles on the car. I am so angry at myself for being a moron.

I don't understand what the problem is. It's perfectly normal for a new car to have some miles on it (even a few hundred.) It happens with things like dealer transfers, overnight/extended test drives, etc. Use it to push the price down lower, or have them find you another car.

IMO you're getting upset over nothing.

they won't budge on the price, and are offering some service incentives... I am getting upset and you're probably right, it's over nothing.

I'd be pissed too if a car I put $500 down on somehow ended up with not only 300 miles, but an additional 135 miles in a day (if I'm reading this right).

If it makes you feel better, ask where the miles came from, if they have a specific answer. If it took them awhile to find the car, it probably came from a dealer that was fairly far away. Dealer transfers are usually driven, not towed.

IMO, it's still a new car, the interest % is still that of a new car, the warranty and service coverages are still that of a new car. Just thoroughly go over the paint, point out any rock chips and make sure the dealer fixes them on their dime.

I just picked up a new 09 Tacoma and it had over 100 miles on it on delivery (I never actually saw or drove the truck before I bought it, came from a dealer across the state.) Didn't bother me one bit.

The car went from the actual dealership I purchased the car from (at some point, who knows) to New Hampshire. The car came from Danvers, MA. He said he did not know where the car went during the interim. I looked over the car and there is zero damage or any scratches of any sort. The car was delivered today and looked pretty dirty, just bugs from the highway and normal pollen and dirt. I just don't know if the car was taken home by a dealer and beat on or driven way to fast before the "engine break in" period.

Its perfectly normal for a car to have 300-500 miles. Its still a new car. Like they said it probably was traded to the other dealer and then traded back to the same dealer. It happens all the time. Just make sure the car looks perfect and don't put too much mind at the milage.

I overreacted... my only fear is the mile usage, not necc the number itself. I do not know if a dealer took this car home and let his wife or son drive the car or even worse, it was a rental used during a customer repair. I don't want a car that was being redlined on the highway... that's my job to ruin the car haha.

Being redlined won't hurt it, that's why there's rev limiters.

Its probably fine, my car was transferred from the closest dealer to the dealership i bought it from and my salesman drove the car himself. He called me and told me it would have somewhere around 80 miles on it. When i got it, it had 82miles, 2 days later i was close to 700 miles lol. I just appreciate the honesty and he even gave me the option to wait another month to get one with 0 miles on it, but i didnt want to wait lol

From: MS/SG...now in perth
if its not a turbo car
its ok
NA car break in procedure is not as important as turbo car
so it wont have much effect on the car
gd luck with arguing for better incentive
but ya, u are right
u are suppose to purchase a new car
not a "near" new car...
