Lancer GTS - Car Fax. Worth It?
Lancer GTS - Car Fax. Worth It?
Hello all,
First off, I enjoy this place... it's useful, mainly because there are people here who have owned several different cars, have more experience then I do, and also know how to handle situations. Let me break this down, I purchased my GTS on pure looks alone, plain and simple. I think it's a sweet looking ride and you don't see that often.
As far as the performance, the car is working perfectly fine for me right now. My only complain would be a strange engine when idling, most people cure this with some exhaust/cold air intake to make it sound faster than it really is (am I wrong here?).
My car was delivered with high miles (approx 400miles), this was discussed in another thread. This morning I searched the VIN # on Carfax and it came up as reporting that there are 8 records on the VIN. The car was transfered through more dealers that I wanted to see. My dealer showed me that they originally had the car, sold it to a dealer in New Hampshire, and the car came from Danvers, MA. They werent able to tell me if the car had been transfered in between those time periods. Is the 8 record alarming? And, is it worth researching and the 30 bucks spent.

Carfax can be useful. is 30 dollars worth piece of mind? I'd think so. I don't think you need to worry because that's more common than you think.
Sometimes product is bought/sold between dealerships, or transfer because they expected to make a sale but something didn't go through, and things tend to shift around.
Now if there were damage and accident reports (even just one minor one) I WOULD complain. Reason being is that when you buy from a dealership, unless its stated (specifically when you are purchasing) that the car is used---it is expected to be a "new" car.
When I bought my car. I had about 300 miles on it before I even got in it. The sales person was upfront and honest and told me all the places my car was before it came to the dealership (I believe him, primarily because right after I introduced myself, I bluntly told him he needs to be honest with me, and if he is i'll buy from him and only him, otherwise i'll walk the moment I think something isn't right. A smart salesman who wants the commission will listen to advice like that. i'm a business man, it's in my blood to be like that I guess.)

UPDATE: I picked up the carfax and the records simply showed the dealerships the car went to. I googled the VIN and it came up as being in an inventory at a dealership in CT, this is not on the carfax. I emailed carfax to see what the status was on the trade.
Car runs well, paint already has chips after a month... WTF! haha
