Should I sell my EVO 8 and buy a US titled EVO V?
Anyways, I was strolling through ebay the other day looking at random vehicles and came across a guy in Louisiana selling a JDM S13 silvia registered and "legal" to drive in the US with a 17 digit vin, the whole works. He also was advertising his website, so I clicked it to check it out. Seems like he has some knowledge about registering previously unavailable JDM cars here in the USA and getting them "legalized" with US vins and everything else required. Now I know a S13 silvia would be alot easier than other JDM cars that were never available here in the states, just because passing it off as a 1989-1993 240sx wouldnt be so bad. but when I went to his site he also had S15 silvias and various skylines that were readily avilable to be shipped and legalized in the states. Kinda thought it was funny, but his feedback from ebay is spotless and he has had plenty of feedback and transactions. So I thought to my self, let me email this guy and ask him what other cars he could "legalize" and see if he even responds back. Next morning he did indeed respond back and asked me what I was looking for. I told him the only car I would even consider would be my personal favorite car of all time the Evo V. He wrote back and said he wasnt a big Mitsu guy but wanted to know the year, color, mods or no,mileage, etc I was interested in. I told him the only year they were released was 1998 and color doesnt matter, neither does mileage(car would be weekend car only anyways). To my surprise he emailed me back later that day and knew of two and sent pics of them. A pristine white one and a clean yellow one. Looks like they are at some type of used car dealership in Japan by the pictures. He told me the price range was 17-19 G's and that required everything to get them here in the country legally(dock fees, shipping, etc.) and if I wanted him to register it and obtain a US vin the total would be in the low 20's.
So, my question is do you guys think it is worth the hassle? And Louisiana is right next to me(I'm in Texas), and I know it would be easy to transfer titles from LA to TX, without much of a hassle. I kow this cause I did it when I moved back to texas after living in Cali. As long as the registration is up to date from the transfer state and the vehicle is titled and has a US vin I dont think it would be much of a problem at all. I'm sure the seller could probably even register it in Texas for me, thats something I gotta ask him. I also live in an emissions free county in Texas, so that wont be a problem for me. The EVO V has always been my favorite EVO, and I've always wanted to get one but thought it was pretty much impossible. This guy sounds legit, and has great feedback to prove it. I'm gonna do a little more research with the guy(try and contact him and other buyers that have bought vehicles from him in the past, just to be on the safe side) I'm guessing there is some kind of loophole in the LA system regarding importing and obtaining Titles and vins on JDM vehicles. I know florida has a loophole, there have been numerous "legalized" JDM vehicles coming from that state. With the EVO V i guess it could be possible to pass it as a "four door mirage", just with AWD, a 4G63, fender flares, and a huge wing! Just wanted some of the experts opinions on the matter. Replacement parts shouldnt be too difficult to obtain, and aftermarket support is definately there. Only problem I see would be any of the electronical wizardry that was standard with the EVO V that the US may have not experienced with.
Are there any EVOM members living in the states that own a US "legal" JDM EVO IV-VII? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Those that are "legal" are either here because of a loop hole or possible illegal vin swap. Those cars are not legal here, period. That doesnt mean there are some around. You can buy them, but the risk is yours to weigh.
FYI, the people that import and "title" these cars are not ones to answer questions on how they do it. There is a TME Evo 6 for sale on this forum somewhere.

Yea, I know the post is kinda long, but thats about as short as I could word it.
Oh, BTW here are the pics of the 2 evo 5's he said were avilable as of right now.

Based on those pics alone, I would have to say if I was to buy now it would have to be the white one. It looks more stock and untouched, even though that yellow one is ****ing sweet!!

There is no problem insuring them. Only problem is ex. a s-13 would be insured as just a reg 240. So if you total it or anything you can only get the money for the going price of that year 240. Evo would be as a Mirage.
I think the EVO 6 TME is being sold by someone living in the 626 area code in So Cal.If you can deal with all of the headaches of registering a EVO V than I say go for it!How many people do you know that an EVO V in the states?
Yea, that would suck blue book on a mirage AINT ****!!!!
LOL, you're the only one that voted yes. I am really considering it. My EVO 8 will be paid off next month, so I have a month to think about it.
