The biggest thing will definately be the Evo, but maybe there will be a few cosmetic and/or performance changes for the US Lancer. I can't imagine anything drastic though.

Maybe in the near future, Lancer will get a 4g64 for their topline model.

I actually have posed this question to various sources, some in the know, some not. No engine changes for 2003, but they are in the works on a whole new engine for 2005 line. (tentatively, who knows if the non evo lancer will have that long of a life.) probably an entire redesign is my guess

Are we gonna have to start a Lancer Rumors forum too?

Personally I like the Lancers as is...what would make em perfect (for the money of course) would be rear discs and removing the LS line...the only three positive things about the LS: 1. Wider color choices than OZ (same as ES I believe), 2. 6 speaker system...(nothin' special) and 3. Available ABS (Who needs em? And if you think you do, why shouldn' they be available on the ES or OZ?)

Anyway...Those really aren't changes cept the disc brakes. I'm fairly easy to please though and I feel my money was well spent...rear discs or none.

It seems to me that their first priority is importing Evo's, not designing upgrade parts for the U.S. spec Lancer.

what I saw in a magazine entitled "car preview", the lancer 2003 will have a 2.4L engine developping 140hp or something like this, however with the info I took on the net, it seems it will be only the "lancer ASX" which will have the 2.4L (the ASX is a SUV), not the regular lancer...

I think a good tuner shop can change the rear drums by disks, I asked a tuner here and he answered "yes we can do it", however I have no clue about the price? but if you buy a 15000$ car and the drum2disc is something like 500$ it's ok I think

I think you'd be lucky if parts alone cost $500. It's a possible mod of mine in the distant future. I've got a lot to do before I mess with the rear brakes. It's not like the drums are killing me, but discs are so much nicer Plus if I end up adding a lot more power in the long run (still can't shake the idea of TCing although it won't be anytime soon) it'd be beneficial to have matching stopping power.

Sunroof's and mild change...

I do not think there will be any engine changes, but there
will be a sunroof available, and a new red color for OZ. (Can't
remember if it was called Rio red or Phoenix Red, but something along
those lines) The LS will return, despite the fact that we hardly sell
any of them. We are told that there will be some kind of facelift for the whole line. The Evolution is very important for Mitsubishi, but make
no mistake, the establishment of the Lancer as the dominate force in
the compact world is a far greater goal for the company then wether
or not a low volume super car has 280hp vs 260, or an FMIC vs a
SMIC.

I don't think I'd slap a big brake kit on the back of a Lancer just
to get rid of the drums. You could very well be upsetting the balance
of the whole car. If you decide you want bigger brakes, you'd be
better off upgrading the front of the car as well. It be just a waste
of money to put on a weak set of discs just to get rid of the drum
look, so you might as well go all out. Maybe AEM will develop a
front and rear system.

AEM was entirely unwilling to work with us.

Anyway...maybe they'll change their tune. If I were to do rear brakes, you best believe I'd be doing front too. So much more space when you get 17" wheels...just achin' to be fillied with brakes. Of course there's really no need for it at present or until I'm actually putting out a lot of power. Lot's going to go into the car before I decide for sure whether or not to go the high power route.

My car has huge front discs...they are over 10" in dia...so the look pretty nice behind my 17's...the rear brakes look a little tiny though...

Ok, my take on this Lancer business. With the Mirage gone, the Lancer will be Mitsu's low level machine. All this talk about gettin the Eclipse engine seems a bit far fetched since I'm sure Mitsu wants to retain that sports car segment with the Eclipse (as well as the V6 models) so I doubt the 4G64 is an engine upgrade option. However, I do Mitsu perhaps tuning the standard engine right now to say 130-140'ish or *flash of inspiration* perhaps de-tuning the 4G64. Hahaha...that or giving Lancer's NA'd 4G63's.
