So I talked to a friend.
So I talked to a friend.
We got into a discussion about what my plans were with the car. And I mentioned a possible Forced Induction plan for later on. He apperently wants me to be JdMTite. And get a jdm ecu. Apperently for him that makes such a huge difference. From what I can tell its the same ecu with a different tune. Therefore I explained it would be more reasonable to use my own ecu and just tune it the way I want. Less money. Then he wanted me to switch from SOHC to DOHC. Because apperently it just makes more sense to him. Anyone have any opinions on this?
stick with the stock ecu and just flash it. the evo rom can be put onto our ecu's without problem. as for the dohc thing yu'll need to ge one from austrailia where they did have cedia's with it with a g93 engine which would fit the g94 thats in your car now.
Yeah I'm not worried about it yet since its under warranty for two years. That is when I'll be looking into everything more. As for the DOHC thing. Is it really gonna make a huge difference. He tried relating it to turbo lag. I don't believe that really has much of an effect on it. As far as power goes I see what hes saying, but I'm only looking to boost to maybe 10psi.

from your first post it sounds like your friend is from the honduh world.
Things are a little different here, your best bet is to do some searching and reading here.
obviously it will be more cost efficient to turbo the sohc since your not spending money on the dohc swap.
do a search here, there are loads of threads about going turbo. I can also bet the next run of questions your about to ask have already been answered many times over.
good luck with your build.

ur under warranty still on an 02? thats ur reasoning for not doing it? Wow.. ummm.. FYI our motors cost about 300$ from salvage company. stop wasting ur time by waiting, u know the manufacture doesnt cover anything.
If ur a poor student, or have no real income, u can ghetto build a turbo kit for less then 2k, and make around 200-220hp as long as someone can tune it properly.
If you want to actually make real power out of our motor u need to build the motor properly, about 2k, and go with a larger turbo setup, so 4k instead of 2k..
6k to build a decide powerplant that is turbod.. and tuning on the stock ecu is the way to go. but Id recommend letting someone that knows what there doing tune your car.
if this is your first car to modify, dont make 1000 threads asking questions, they will be deleted.. Use the Search button

I bought it from a used dealership that's why it has a two year warranty.Yes I am a student, I don't make as much as some of you "grownups" do. Sorry for being curious but when I searched to DOHC vs SOHC topic I didn't see anything. That would be the main topic of this thread. I never asked a question about anything turbo other than the SOHC vs DOHC question.
I would say just do some research on the search button. You're so worried about the two year warranty so you have two years to look up stuff about the dohc vs the sohc. Going turbo'd or going dohc cost a few thousands anyways and seeing as you're a student too that's not something that can come by easy lol.
I would also add that, like you said before, you just want to make your car more fun by putting in a turbo...so why not just start with the usual mods for now? Suspension, intake, exhaust, other stuff that comes first. That stuff will make your car more fun. Don't just jump to a turbo, work up to it.
^^or do like what i did and just did it and never looked back
anything you do n/a will effect the turbo when you do it...
such as....
lighweight crank pulley (1lbs rrm one to your 4lbs stocker?) - o ya i also have one of these for sale too!
do clutch and flywheel now so that when you do go turbo you wont have to worry about that
rrm ported intake mani, basically its just portmached but when your turbo you want as much air going thru as possible
ported throttlebody, same idea with the intake mani as well
i know that there is tuff im missing but its a start...
