a used 3000GT isnt bad and a Used 2nd Gen Mr2 you can tune them pretty well. sucks to be in the u.s. if we were in japan we wouldbe have alot of choices of used cars...used s15's, used skylineg trs, used mazda rx-7s, used lancer evolutions, used subaru wrx sti's and the list goes on.i got 2 years till i get my license.

Vash, if you really want a car, seriously! Get an RX7, TURBO, the old generation one. The one before the new RX7, I would call it FC, but I don't think you would know that. It's a nice car, in Japan, it's on the top 5 list of "The Best Cars for Drifting". It's also a very fast car too and make sure to get a white/clean/neat one.

My roommate currently has a 89 FC3S RX-7 Turbo II, (the top model in US, there are two other better "trim/type" in Japan)

A very nice, fast car, but burn gas like crazy (the highway mpg was low 20's mph)...and the insurance WON'T be cheap, for his age and driving experience. It's a 2 seater, turbo, no ABS, no airbag....I would assume the insurance premium will be sky high...

Just my opinion.

Just an advice....

Any coupe is going to cost you. [And the turbo?... don't even think
about it]
I remember my '82 celica about 10 years ago while I was in College.
Even though, I had a few years of driving under my belt... my 97HP
car cost me about $1300 a year to insured (one way!!!!). Damn
insurance company considered any coupe as a sportscar!!!!
Talk about not eating lunch to pay for my insurance....

Just my opinion.... just be happy to have a ride at 16 with a 4 door
sedan or wagon. The insurance company would not get you there.
And besides, it is now a fad to drive friends around... right?

Like I said my first car was an Rx-7 and everyone is right they are good looking quick, but I had nice tires, so I never tried drifting "damn If I had known" but they are pretty lousy on gas and repairs are HORRIBLY expensive. It couldve been because where I live in western Ma no one knows *** about rotories except the local MAZDA dealership. The comments about insurance though, man isnt that the truth, they will rake you over the coals if you're young and you want a nice car. Although I have never been a fan of civics, I would have to say that It would make a really good first car that or maybe a protoge or mirage. Look for something with four doors and no *****, and you will be all set then once you actually know how to drive buy yourself something nice
