I have a 2006 lancer OZ. Lancers have been my favorite car since i was like 10 with evo being at the top because of the look and speed. So far ive done some aesthetic mods like spoiler, diffuser, tailights etc. And headers, downpipe and short ram to the engine. Nothing big. My question is: should i continue to modify my car or just save up to buy an evo way down the line? I dont make alot of money as im still a student but im planning on modifying over the years to spread the cost out so money isnt a big issue. Im not expecting any real progress any time soon and i know it takes time to do big things to a slow car. Ive done some research and have a pretty good idea on the cost and work involved to get my Car anywhere close to an evo and im up for it. As of right now my general plan would be something like:
Engine swap/rebuild. Possibly A 4g64 turbo'd or something.
New suspension
Upgraded internals
Exhaust etc.

Does this plan sound worth it to you guys? I want a project car anyways and a car to keep working on over the years. What do you guys think?

I would save up for an Evo but I'm obviously biased.

 

I gave up getting an evo to modify my OZ.

First, i bought an OZ becaus ei couldn't afford an evo. With interest and payments i ended up paying like 18K for it. Now, about a year and a half from graduating college i've saved up some money to buy an Evo. Yet, thinking about it I could use that money i saved up to buy a house and have a place to call my own. Because of that i decided i can use some of my huge savings to modify the OZ rally. I think it would be dumb to spend another 10 to 16K on a Evo, when i can use 2K to 4 K for the OZ and the rest to buy a house.

So honestly bro, it is definitely up to you. The majority of guys here will most likely tell you to go buy an evo. If your current car doesnt mean much to you then get rid of it and get the car you want. Again, it is entirely up to you.
