Battery relocation

Well, Vince (GuruDel) helped me out tonight and we moved my battery to the right rear of my trunk. This makes the weight distribution (front to back as well as offsetting the driver) a little better, and also make some more room for ducting air to my intake

did you install a cutoff switch too?

for most drag tracks it's needed to make runs.

No cutoff switch. I'm not sure why they would require that for simply relocating the battery. The autocross association I race under only requires that the battery not be placed inside the passenger compartment. Why would I need a cutoff switch?

its for if you crash you can turn off the battery. fuel and sparks from shorts don't mix. the reason why you don't need one if the battery is in the front is that there isn't that big of a fuel source other then the fuel lines which can cause a fire to keep going, but not blow up the car.

pretty simple install, no big deal, but if you never go to a drag track no worries

That makes sense, although the battery and fuel tank are seperated by the trunk floor and then some. But I suppose you're right, it is much closer to the fuel in the case of an accident. Thanks for the heads up!

You don't absolutely need a battery box if it's in the trunk because the venting fumes aren't likely to seep into the cockpit at a high rate. It would be a good idea though. I thought about relocating the battery but it would take me out of stock class and I don't want to do that quite yet. If I did, I wouldn't do the relocation without a battery box.

I have the same relocation and you dont need the box but you can use it. I have a box being made because i didnt like the look of the boxes being sold.

As for install I givve it a 4.5 cause you have to tear out alot of stuff in the car to run the wire cleanly.

As for a cut off switch that is not needed unless you are a super drag racer kinda guy, I am certaing brian wont be seeing a drag strip any time soon.

Thanks Vince, you're right I'm not building a drag car. I asked the sales person at PAW if a box was necessary and he just said it is more asthetically pleasing. He offered to order the aluminum one but said there was no danger running without one. One question Vince, how can the rear have a firewall with seats that flip forward?

magic seats.

the rear of all cars that have a trunk must by law have some form of protection from the rear as most gas tanks are back there and people carry all their scary **** back there.

though it is not as good as the front one it will limit what passes into the passenger compartment.

thanks for clearing that up, the seat backs are probably made of fire resistant material.

Yes! There is plenty of room for a custom CAI. Ask Vince, his is an auto. But here's a pic of the space it frees up in my car. I plan on routing extra air to my SRI with that space. Maybe even remove the headlight for open track sessions.
