What to do with wrecked '02 ES

Hey guys,

Sorry, it's been a long time since I was here last. I’m looking for some help deciding what to do with a wrecked 2002 Lancer ES I have.

I got it 8 years ago from a friend who bought it from a salvage yard with the idea of fixing it up, but that never ended up happening. I signed up on this site back then to look for information on parts and ideas to get it fixed up. I figured I’d come back here to see what the demand is for the older cars now.

I’m trying to sell it on Craigslist as a whole car for someone else to either fix or part out, but I’m not getting any interest. Now I’m looking to find out if there is a market still out there for me to just part it out myself. It’s only got 8K miles and the only damage is to the front end, so there are a lot of excellent condition parts I could sell. I’ve seen the prices for various things on Ebay and I know I could do a lot better on prices for the members here.

So the question is, what is the demand for 2002 parts?

I know there are a lot of parts that interchange with later years and I basically have a complete car with all the other parts I bought for the repairs. If I’m going to part it out, I’d like to start here on this site where I received a lot of help and got some great deals on the parts I accumulated to fix this thing.

Let me know what you guys think. I’m not selling anything in this thread, I just want to know if it’s worth putting up a thread in the marketplace forum and going through all the hassle of tearing apart a car.

Thanks, Mike

I imagine demand would be quite low for such an old car. But you'd probably get a few folks here or there that needed stuff.

The biggest hindrance is that it's an ES. None of the parts in that car are nicer than what people have in their existing car (because the ES had the crappiest interior and suspension).

It's definitely worth a shot. But don't expect to sell a ton of stuff, unfortunately.

That's good to hear, lil' jeff, I think I'll give it a try. Worse case, I scrap it out and get a little pocket change. lol!

I have a guy teasing me that he's interested in the whole thing. If that doesn't go through, then it looks like I'll part it out.

Thanks for the help guys.....
