Muffler
I have a catback with a mangaflow resonator and a magnaflow muffler... wanted to keep the sound levels down.
If you don't like the pitch of the muffler.. just get another magnaflow in a larger size. Just figure out how big of a muffler you can take in the spot you are trying to put it... use that and make sure the inlets and outlets match the pipe size you are using. That will be the best way to fix any "pitch" issues with what you are hearing.
It is possible you have something else going on though as magnaflows and most other mufflers only get deeper as they get older... and 3,000 miles is right around the point when that happens. I know mine changed pitch around there.
Also keep in mind that your exhaust will sound COMPLETELY different hot versus cold. Just a factor of something in the construction of magnaflow systems.
I have sound clips of my exhaust on this forum...
in a thread called "low db high flow exhaust"
Later.

shd ... thanks for the long response, ill wait till i put about 1,000 miles on with the header and see if that makes a difference in the sound, after you saying that , i do remember that it took a while before the muffler sounded a little differnt after first getting the cat back installed.
Thanks for the help guys!

you have the magnaflow catback.. i have one sitting here in my room, and it has a resonator in it, a big one at that, your tone should be nice and deep, im running headers, test pipe, and axleback magnaflow and it sounds deep, not real deep, but not high pitched, and i have the stock resonator in there
TURBOit,
You'd be surprised how fast the pitch rises once you start running complete straight through exhaust. Your stock resonator is a two pass resonator I believe... so it slows down the gases a bit and does a great job of supressing sound. Even if it is not a two pass and is just an open chamber, it'll do a lot more than the bullet resonator that is in the magnaflow catback system.
I don't know if IILancer has the catback or a custom catback... but either way...
I noticed my header seemed to drop in pitch just this last week finally.... it took about 1500 miles or better for my header... and I already had the exhaust on for 10,000 or more miles. It's weird how exhausts change sound. I don't know if it is just the way the carbon builds up on the inside or what... but they definitely change pitch.
I plan to get some new recordings of my exhaust done soon... but who knows.. it's cold as all hell here in Wisconsin.
It added a higher "raw" note to the exhaust when I put the kamikaze header and DP on it... it's faded off some.. but I haven't gotten to hear the car from the outside yet to see what I really sounds like... most of my friends can't drive stick
. But that note seems to have faded.. so I just need to look into it and so forth..
But anyway... the moral of the story is wait a while to see if it cleans up to a tone you are happy with.. if it hasn't done it after about 3,500 miles total time on that muffler, then look at replacing it. I love the sound of Magnaflows, and haven't heard anything that sounds as nice as them yet... Especially since they are a true straight through, yet somehow manage to deplete a lot of noise which is great. So if you don't like the pitch go with a bigger bodied muffler and that'll help change the pitch.

YA, i loved the sound , untill i got the test pipe and header on, then it started to sound a little rough, so i'll wait for another 2k miles and see how it sounds.
thanks guys.

Well, i bought a new muffler the other night, should be getting here in the mail sometime next week, and then ill upload soem pics and sound clips ** before and after **
its a HKS with a Ti tip i believe.
Im not sure about price and such for sure because my dad bought it for me from online for me getting good grades this semester, so its more less a suprise but i found out about it. haha.
oh well, ill keep u guys posted.
** ps, my mom said he bought it because it has a removable silencer so it wont be so god awfully loud . haha **

HKS universal mufflers either come in roughly 2.25" and 3" in stainless, 3" in carbon canister/stainless tip, or 3" all titanium. The all titanium universal is out of production I believe though.
