Unhappy Muffler

Alright, right now i have a sweet exhaust set up, the headers, test pipe, 2.25" piping and magnaflow muffler ,and its loud as hell and i love it!

But, the problem is, i dont think i like the muffler anymore, after 3k on the RPM it starts to make a wierd whinny / weezing noise. Im not sure if i like it.

So
A.) does anyone else iwth a magnaflow muffler experience this problem, and if so do u like it ? or did u fix it some how?

or

B.) Can someone reccomend a muffler for like under 60$ ** perhaps an ebay one ** that i can just replace it with that will have a nice low sound and not get weezy or whinny after 3k rpm or even up till the redline?

Thanks for the help guys.

I doubt it's your muffler. It's probably a combo of the test pipe and headers. Try putting your cat back on and see if the noise stops.

You have a small displacement 4 cylinder with a completely open exhaust and you're wondering why your exhaust is making obnoxious noise?

Im not wondering why its making an obnoxious noise, i llove how loud it is, not that, its the fact that it make's a weezing noise. I've heard other Lancers with the same set up, or honda's with the same set up, only differnt mufflers and they sound nicer.

So, IF anyone could reccomend a muffler they think sounds really nice that would be helpful!

If you're looking for a universal muffler to put on your Lancer good luck finding one that doesn't sound like crap with a wide open system. I have the RMR axle-back with no other exhaust mods and I love how it sounds. At idle it sounds kind of raspy, but it sounds great with the gas pedal down.

The Greddy Evo muffler sounds awesome, but good luck finding one seperate from the catback. I know the Apexi World Sport muffler sounds really good because it isn't a straight through, but again they don't sell it seperately.

Most of the universal mufflers are the "bomb" type (straight through, circular, canister type with a 4" tip) and sound like ***. If I were you I'd look into a different Magnaflow or go with a Flowmaster.

Ya i was kind of looking at that new magnaflow Ti , but right now im not sure if i like how my magnaflow sounds, i may talk to my neighbor and ask him what muffler he has because his sounds really nice i think.

But, i havent heard the exhuast from outside the car yet, just from inside, so maybe ill have a friend drive it for me this weekend and see how it sounds from the outside of the car, because it prob sounds a lot differnt, i know that was the case with the test pipe.

Another thing to consider is a resonator if you don't have one in your piping already. You can get one welded into your current pipe most likely for less than it would cost for a new muffler.

I have the same setup, only I am using stock piping from the test pipe back to the axle-back... and it sounds great. No whine, no obnoxious sound - nothing but deep, sweet exhaust.

i was running a magnaflow axel back and test pipe, nothing else, no header, no intake, and stock resonator and it sounded fine, all the way up to redline. i dont think the sound is going to be because of the header, maybe you have a leak somewhere, forgot to put a gasket back on maybe?
