Can't accelerate above 80 km/h

Hi everyone, I just to ask anybody about my problem. I bought a 2nd hand Lancer EX 2010 last 3 weeks ago. Everything is good except that I found recently that my car can't accelerate above 80 km/h, it's stuck on 80 km/h even I press the gas pedal to the floor. Can someone please tell me what is the problem? thanks

Actually I'm not sure, for it is new to me. But I don't see any error message on the instrumental panel. If it is in limp mode, what shall I do? Is it expensive to fix? thanks for your prompt reply at least I have an idea.

should be the same as the older lancers, disconnect negative side of battery for like 10 minutes...

nah, it's not sluggish. actually it's pretty responsive from 0-80, it can slow down and yield smoothly. it's just that after it reaches 80 it's stuck there even i press the gas pedal to the floor, only the rpm is moving.

Weird. Definitely ask the dealership if possible. That's awfully low for being a specified speed limiter or something... Sounds like something is wrong.

definately, no codes though, that's f'ed...maybe transmission related? if it's automatic, it might not be going into the final gear.

So you drive, and the speedometer stops at 80 but your rpms keep going up, meaning you keep accelerating?

80 kph, though? That's 49 mph. That's not even highway speeds in the US. I imagine they let them drive a little faster than THAT in Dubai.

We've got TONS of customers in the Middle East, including Dubai, and there's no 50mph speed limiters on their cars.

Might make sense. Maybe it can't find anything above 2nd gear?
