Gauge Cluster Odometer

I was thinking about putting an EVO cluster in my OZ, just for a change, but I don't want to screw up the odometer reading and be commiting fraud. Where is the mileage reading stored in our car? Is it in the ECU or the gauge cluster?

Now with that out of the way, there must be a chip of sorts storing that information in the gauge cluster. Would it be possible to switch that chip between clusters?

Possibly. I dunno, I haven't been able to find it yet. I have a spare gauge to play with at the moment, but I don't have the time to play with it.

I hear that. I barely had enough time to change my oil this weekend. Thanks for the input and I'll keep searching for my answer. Probably just say screw dealing with changing the odo, but maybe I'll get lucky and find some information.

No one's figured it out yet. I'm pretty sure a dealership could fix you milage though.

/\ yup, the dealer can do it. If you get lucky, you may be able to find an Evo cluster with similar (if not exact) milage as your car. I have an ES and swapped to an OZ cluster and my car is BARELY off... like, I could pull the cluster out and drive (average distances) for a couple days then put the cluster back and it would be pretty accurate.

But I hate my dealer and anything associated with them. Wouldn't they suspect odometer fraud or something to screw you over in the end if they set the new cluster to the correct mileage?
