Guages...
EDIT: Not all gauges are sorry.. wasent reading it correctly, but your best bet would be going with a boost and vac gauge, because u can tell at idle if you have a vac leak if you had a reg boost gauge it would never let you know if you have a vacuum leak or not.. which would suck.. vac leaks = hella loss of power. I had my Charge pipe bolted on with one bolt before sounded like a super charger.. and had no power at all.
instead of fuel pressure... i think you might want a oil pressure gauge... just my .02. Im not forsure if im right about this but cant you semi tell from an EGT gauge if you are running rich or lean based on the normal temp... higher temp running lean... lower temp running rich... remember reading that somewhere cant recall though. Great way to think ahead i plan on doing the same thing... get everything set in the car before i boost. GL with the setup and keep us updated.
You'll find out pretty quick if your oil pressure's off. Fuel pressure is way more useful if you're un a position where you can and need to adjust your fuel. I'm not sayin oil pressure wouldn't be useful, but it's not nearly as essential as fuel pressure imo. I'm upset I went so long without FP gauge. I'm finally going to be putting my Defi gauges in during or shortly after my rebuild.
Boost/vac is very good to have. You don't want to be running blind. You won't be watching it all the time, but you match catch a spike, creep or vac loss with a gauge that you may not have otherwise.
I can't stress this one enough though. O2 monitoring is USELESS on the stock sensor. You will need a wideband. Period. If you want a good readout, check out the new AEM UEGO with gauge style controller. Makes me wish I'd waited.
I have Boost and EGT right now and I'll be removing my VDO Gauges and replacing them with the Defi Link system this spring.

Just my $.02, I'm going with the basic oil pressure, voltage, then either oil temp or water temp. I'm only doing these because I think it would be nice to have a gauge and not just a dummy light telling me what's going on. Also, these gauges are pretty cheap to come by. The rest are not needed because I don't have any high end mods on my car.
Once I do start getting more mods on my car I'm going to go with EGT, vacuum/boost, and fuel pressure. Like a few have said here and what I hear from others EGT is the best way to determine lean/rich conditions.

Agree with Hobie...my a/f guage is kinda worthless, other than to give me general ideas about where the mixture sits. Wideband sensors are awesome...someone posted about one on here a while back that was very nice...just required a second bung in the header. Fuel pressure gauge is difficult to install. The sending unit has to be in the fuel line after or right next to the FPR or it's worthless. I fabricated a new fuel line for mine where the sender T's off the line right before the FPR...have yet to test it tho.
i just thought that i would rather know about what my oil pressure is doing then my fuel... fuel would be nice if you had some way to change it... but then you also need some way to monitor the a/f ratio. i do have a question about the oil pressure gauge, if you sprang a leak or say you oil return line came off would this be shown on your oil gauge as a drop in pressure?

if ur oil line broke or something it would be noticed by a billowing of blue smoke out of ur engine bay or exhaust
thanks for all the info on the gauges...
unfortunately girlfriend got an apartment and wants me to stay with her...just as i reached 7 posts a day....now ill be on like 3 times a week lol
keep the thread going, i wanna make sure i get most of the 'little nit pick' things done before boosting, makes it easier for me and my bro ya know what i mean?

i ment your oil return line for the turbo... the oil would have to land on something hot to do that... anyways since we are talking bout gauges what do you all think are the 3 most important to have besides boost for a FI car? I was thinking EGT, oil pressure, and maybe the uego o2 one(figure if you gonna do it do it right)
