Why are there 2 different lancer es bumpers on 04s-07s

Hey guys,
I have always been curious to why my bumper looks different from the other lancer es's I have seen. I have a bumper like this:

While all the other lancer es's I see are like this:

Does anyone have any clue what mitsubishi was thinking on this one? Or maybe a guess?

The 07 has that first bumper, 04-06 has the other one. They are interchangable but it was just a cosmetic refresh for that one year before the redesign.

Hmmm, mine was built in June of 06, which came to a surprise since my brother (previous owner of the car) told me it was an 05 haha. Looks like mine may be one of the first with this style of bumper. Regardless, I am in need of a front bumper so I'll be looking for an 04-05 since they are way better looking
