2008 Lancer SRS airbag light

There are a few posts regarding this pesky light but I have found them to be very confusing. I just want to share my experience in hopes to clarify things. I have a stock '08 Lancer GTS with no modifications...(waiting for warranty to expire) My wife would drive the car and get the SRS airbag service required warning light. However, when I drove it, the light was not on. I tracked the problem down to the wiring harness for the seat positioning sensor. If you pull the driver seat all the way forward, and look from the back seat you will see a collection of 4 seperate harnesses. The seat position harness is the second from the right, immediately next to the yellow harness.

With the constant back and forward motion of the seat, the wire connecting the sensor to the airbag system wore down and broke. Once I found the wire, it was just a matter of reconnecting the wires together. I soldered them together and secured them in a butt splice connector and retaped the wires back together for support.

There is a lot of confusion regarding the light and whether or not it needs to be reset by the dealer. In this specific case, the light WILL TURN OFF once the repair is made correctly. You do not need to go to the dealer and get this light reset. I hope this helps all of you out there. Take care Forever
