Unhappy Build Quality of the 02 Lancer

okay, I was wondering of all the 02 lancer owners out there, who is happy with the build quality of our cars. I personally am disapointed. My ride quality is sh*t, the car doesn't feel solid anymore. when I shut the door, which I do very softly, I think the car is going to fall apart. I have all kinds of rattles and I get a lot worse gas mileage than I should from a car of this size. I was wondering about what other people think and feel. I do absolutly love the styling of this car though and I am very glad it was my first car, but I'm still very interested in what all you fellow Lancer owners think.

Thanks.

i mean i'm not over joyed with it, but its a pretty solid car. just spend a few k on your car and you will like it more. i love parking at the mall and knowing people look at my evo 8 wing and say that looks tight. and i love walking up to it and knowing that i am working on making my car look and perform like a 30k rally car (evo) for less than 10k. i mean stock civic's don't look all that great. but man i have seen some bad *** looking civics that run great. our lancers are 14k cars not 30k. put like 3k into it and you will start to appeciate it and especially apperciate it potential performance, and looks wise.

off topic: by the way get the ultra super saiyan trunks for your sn image. or the trunks with long hair 17 yr old trunks not 14.

My dash started rattling 3 months after purchasing it new!!! The brakes are beginning to squeek as well. I agree it's not very gas efficient, but I still love my Lancer!

i had a bunch of MAF and ignition probs with my car when i first got it and the dealership couldn't solve them (Bought it when it first came out) But since the first few months my car has been solid as a rock, nothing too major, a little of the rubber strippin along the headlight is coming off, but no biggie. Im pretty satisfied with the car, (knock on wood.)

are you guys driving stick or autos? cause if you drive it "right" then you'll definetly have no problem at all with gas mileage! I think the gas mileage is great...

I've had mine since feb 02 and it is a good car. I do seem to notice a lot of wind noise coming from the drivers side door seam! I also average just over 25 miles per gallon with 17 inch wheels, while I was averaging 30 mpg with the stock wheels!

I'm very much impressed with the overall perfomance of the car. It's pretty solid considering I'm ruff on it sometimes I bought mine with like no miles on it too. You know come to think of it I had the squeeky brake problem I took it in for the 15000 mile inspection and problem was cured. Gas mileage is close to what the MSRP sticker said to but I like to go fast.

Mine is about what I expected. Yeah, the rattles are annoying, but they are few and soft. I wouldn't expect any car to stay perfect when autocrossing ti every month. Gas mileage is definitately not up to par with Honda, but hey if mpg was my ONLY concern, I would have gotten a Civic. Other than that, it's what I expect... a car that is kinda fun to drive and gets me from A to B and back to A without breaking down.

Well I autocross my car and its still in good shape. So for everyday driving, Id have to say the build quality is quite good.

Yeah I should clarify, my car is in excellent shape and I take good care of it, it is at 31k with no mechanical problems at all. I'm just saying you can't expect a car with a stiff suspension to not have little insignificant squeaks and rattles over time.

Haha, my post was not in response to your Urbanknight. I wrote than before your post showed up. I agree with everything you said. My response was to the people who were ragging on the build quality. My point was if it can stand up to autocross, daily driving should not be an issue.

Well I know that our car is just a 14k car, but just the difference between my wife's Toyota Rav4 is amazing. the ride is quieter and the doors shut solidly. I'm just not sure that putting money into the car will hemp that. I've thought about Dynamating the car to get a quieter ride, but then that severely adds to the weight. I just think that Mitsubishi could have done a much better job with our cars. I've even looked at the new Scion, and that car feels more solid than ours and it's in the same price range. granteed ours are WAY better looking. I still love my car, but I'm disappointed.

IF you feel that way, why did you buy the car? Honestly, I wonder some times if people actually drive the car and get a feel for it before they buy it. All I can do is speak from my own experiences, but my 02 Lancer still has doors that shut like they did when the car was new.

Im not trying to argue with you, because its a personal opinion. I just think that for me, the build quality on the car is alot better than some of the other cars that are in the Lancers price range. To be truthful though, its an economy car. Build quality isnt supposed to match that of the higher priced cars. I guess I just look past the small stuff.
