mine works i only paid about 100$CA. you get screwed though if your the only guy on the road, then your radar will beep and click you've been had by the camera.. make sure someone is infront of you or nearby, so then usually when you hear the beep you know theres a cop somewhere...

VALENTINE 1!!

I have just spent a month with a Valentine One. It has already alerted me to 6 situations where I could have gotten a ticket! Three on the freeway after Laser had been turned on to a car in front of me and three in a neighborhood where local cops hide and use KA band. Many towns still use K and KA band! The Valentine's arrow system flat out works! It gets you to look in the correct direction were the radar is and it is very accurate. Best 350.00 you can spend. Valentine also can update your unit as they develope the unit so your unit will not be rendered obsolete. And NO I don't work for them-

I had the Passport for about 2 months. I've been saved countless times because of it. More than I can count on all my fingers and toes. The only time that a cop caught me off guard (in which I didnt' get a ticket) was when he pulled up next to me at a stop light and then turned on his radar (we were about to get on the highway).

I only say "had" because I was forced to sell it due to money issues and had I had it only 3 months later, I'd have 2 less tickets on my record. I'd go with the Passport, definately worth my $300.

Edit: Don't forget that Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia.

there's the good point. make sure it's legal. if not, get one that cant be detected. Also.. maybe drive scared ****less for a month or more so you actually learn to use your eyes and brain. No detector by itself is foolproof. Having a detector doesnt mean you can turn off your eyes and brain. And you need to get to 'know' your detector.

I have a really old Bel. Still works great. Around here, no one uses laser. I've seen lidar used once maybe 6 years ago.

As far as passport or v1, i will probably upgrade to the passport. I hear the v1 is more sensitive, but because of that, it will false in the city. I use my detector in the city since cops use radar around here, not just the highway. If you do a lot of highway driving, get the v1. If you use it in the city, and dont want it going off all the time (and dont want to turn off any specific bands) then I hear the passport will be more than adequate. I think they're both good from what I can tell.
