Exclamation Clutchless Manual Shift Mode?

courtey of mitsubishiusa.com

It is no longer necessary for drivers to make the sacrifice of having to choose between a vehicle with Automatic transmission or Manual transmission. Sportronic™ 4-speed transmission with Adaptive Shift Control gives drivers the best of both worlds. Its clutchless manual shift mode offers easy, race-inspired, sport-performance shifting without the burden of having to operate a third pedal. Sportronic's™ sequential shift pattern also facilitates lightning quick shifts, as it eliminates the usual "H" pattern shifting method seen in most cars with manual transmission. When in Sportronic's™ clutchless manual shift mode, getting from gear to gear is as simple as pushing the shift lever forward to up-shift or pulling back to downshift.

My question is, what years of the lancer had this option?

Ummm....none that I know of...unless the sportback has it.

I'm betting this is more for the new Galant though.

isn't that just an automatic that you can choose the gears? I'm waiting for someone to develop syncros strong enough to eliminate the clutch and still have no loss of power associated with a torque converter.

Just because there's no clutch doesn't mean they can still drive.

It's in the Outlander, Endeavour, Galant, Eclipse and Diamante. It's a version of tiptronic, it makes people with automatics feel bigger and better about themselves

lol, lets not start bashing. so is it like tiptronic in the aspet that you can only go up and down? or will they keep the individual 5 spd stick and just cut out the clutch?

I know that the new corvette has a automatis shiftable thing like this and Car and Driver said that it was so good that they recomended the auto over the manual. they said that the auto shifted fasted and delivered the same power as the manual. I was totally shocked!

what about this 'sportstronic shifter' for automatics or manuel? I heard about it somewhere. Is it ok, to shift an auto like a manuel? Does this sportstronic shifter make it easier/better?

It's an automatic that you push over to the side to choose what gear it goes in to. It's not a manual really, because if you go too fast in a low gear, or too slow in a high one, it'll automatically shift down in it. I drove an Endeavor with one, and honestly? I found it useless. even when I had it in the "manual" mode, it did what it felt like, so I was like "what's the point?" and left it in auto. There's no point if it's not going to do what you tell it to.
