Here is the trick with that...if you want manumatic...triptronic...sport tronic/whatever you want to call it just get an automatic and put it into first gear, before you hit redline shift to second, then third and so on (welll OD)...
basically what im saying is that it is a computerised way of doing that. but in most automatics..with or without this feature its fastest to just put it in drive and put your foot to the floor.
You can tune an auto matic to be as quick as a manual...even quicker but the shifts between the gears would be so rough it just wouldnt be worth the ride quality.

The best bet...buy a manual and if you dont know how to drive then get your buddy to teach you (on their car)

Honestly, it's actually pretty useful on the Outlander which is wanting for power. I'd imagine in a car like the Endeavor, it's not that useful. But, on the Outlander, it makes what is basically an underpowered cute-ute be a bit fun to drive. I was driving on a twisty section on the way home in it the other night, and enjoying the AWD. It's no replacement for a three-pedal, but, it's better than just a straight Auto, in my opinion.

Also, for those wondering, it's basically a Sequential gearbox. It allows you to choose the gear that your in sans-clutch pedal. However, I know someone mentioned that it "shifts for you", but, really, that's usually after I would shift anyway (redline and 1500 RPM), and is just there so you don't scrag your engine. I imagine that there are some manual "drivers" who wish for the same thing.

If anyone read about the Audi transmission in last month's SCC TechnoBabble... that's the transmission I want! No perceptible power loss in between gears. That's BETTER than an manual could ever be. Just, not as much fun.
