Future Mods

hey, i posted a smiliar post over at SRO, and they told me to come here.

I know u dont like ricers and all.. But i figured this is the best place to ask on the net anyway..

I'm planning on getting a second hand CE lancer in a couple of years.
I'm going to work on the body and exterior before anything else (i dont really care if u dont like this so plz keep it shut). After that, i might work out some audio, or go straight to the engine.

What kind of things would i be looking to increase performance of my car? I wont be racing her on streets or raceparks or anything, but ill always need a bit of performance either way.
I know a turbo would always be good, but im not sure if i can afford that yet. What about supercharging?
if u recommend a new engine, what kind should i get?

A decent exhaust will help the car breathe better, but that only has use if the engines got some stick.

btw, whats the different between a turbo and supercharging? whats the price difference?

Any more suggestions welcome...

P.S. Budget = about $5-6k AUS ($2.5-3k USD).

cheers

What's up bro, here's some suggestions:

1) Get an Intake, even if you don't get your car Turboed. It actually gives you better milage and will definately increase performance.

2) When it comes to an exhaust, don't go for size. I can't stress this enough! The bigger exhaust you get, the more performance you will blow, believe me, I learned the hard way.

3)When it comes to Turbochargers/Superchargers, here's the deal:

The key difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger is its power supply. Something has to supply the power to run the air compressor. In a supercharger, there is a belt that connects directly to the engine. It gets its power the same way that the water pump or alternator does. A turbocharger, on the other hand, gets its power from the exhaust stream. In theory, a turbocharger is more efficient because it is using the "wasted" energy in the exhaust stream for its power source. On the other hand, a turbocharger causes some amount of back pressure in the exhaust system and tends to provide less boost until the engine is running at higher RPMs. Superchargers are easier to install but tend to be more expensive.

IMO, I would go with a turbo! Turbo's will probably give you a higher boost and since superchargers get their power supply from the engine, and not the exhaust, they are wasting energy from the engine. A turbo on the other hand, won't take energy from the engine, so I would prefer a Turbocharger.

The price depends on what stage Turbo/Super you are getting. Although, overall, superchargers tend to be more expensive!

Hope this helps!

thanx for yor help,
when i posted over at SRO, they were very critical and often flamed me for being 'ricey' or giving real performance cars a bad name.

keep em coming peep's

I agree with NightCrawler except on the point that a major reason to be going for a TC over an SC is that the SC is gonna be more, running a same rate of boost, but, the numbers won't be high due to the fact that it is utilizing oil direct from the engine... which in turn heats the air before it gets into the engine.

it looks like u wants looks over power first. well just remember there are mods like the exhaust that do both, keep that in mind. also keep in mind the peformance mods u plan on getting even when doing your body work. i mean u might not want a fiberglass hood with a turbo cuz it might not be able to wistand the heat from the turbo or maybe a a front spolier that would restrict air to a future FMIC

a little OT here but how does a turbo create heat?
i think you might mean the header.

first, i wanna say, i hope you're joking about my bike.
second, i never said the turbo wouldn't get hot, i said that it wont create heat. the heat comes from the explosions within the cylinders and pushes through to the header and the turbo gets hot as a result of the heated air passing through it.
