2009 Lancer GTS Battery Problems
I am currently having some issues with a Lancer I bought a couple weeks ago and still haven't been able to diagnose the problem. When I first bought the car I didn't have any battery problems and the car turned over, and now I have something in the car draining the battery and I cant figure it out. The car is fairly stock but there is an aftermarket subwoofer and amp along with speakers in it. The battery problems seemed to start after I fixed a grounding wire that wasn't connected to the amp but even after disconnecting all the wires to the amp it is still being drained so I don't know if it was just coincidence or part of the problem. I noticed the problem about a week and a half ago when the car completely died, so I went and got a new battery for it, that fixed the problem for a little while but then something started to drain it again. I have tried completely disconnecting the amp from all power, taken out the main amp fuse in the fuse box but nothing has helped. I have been able to jump the car a few times but currently it wont even turn on off of a jump. When I have a battery pack plugged in the auxiliary's will come on but the car will try to turn over and then just stop and give me a clicking sound if I crank the key. I am sort of at lost here as I assumed it was the amp drawing power while sitting idle and now I just cant figure it out so I need some help.
Update: I got a Voltmeter and tested my draws I charged the battery back up to 12.4v and started the car, figured out its not a Alternator issue its a parasitic draw of some kind but I don't know where to start. I tested volts after as well and got a reading of 5.0 with the car turned off so I don't know what could draw that much power in so little time. I was also told that the security system could be causing the issue its a Compustar unit and apparently they cause a lot of issues with cars but I don't know where to look for a possible fuse or line in for the connection.
The car itself is a 2009 Lancer GTS the only aftermarket parts on the car are:
- Subwoofer and Amp with speakers
- Intake and Exhaust
- Backup camera that goes through a rear view mirror
- Compustar remote start & security
