4G13 1998 1.3 GL 12valve - whining noise when hot

Hi all,

I'm chasing down a rpm dependant whining noise on my lancer. Only appears after about 15 mins of driving when everything gets up to temp.

Appears to be around the pulley side of the engine. So I'm guessing a bearing.. slow idle quiet, anything above about 900 then it starts but only when hot.
Tensioner on timing belt, alternator, water pump? Can't identify by listening

Which would more likely to whine only when hot?

I could remove the belts from the AC/power steering and alternator for a few seconds to see if it disappears or not. Haven't had the chance yet as we don't use the car much and when we do it tends to be at night time.

I believe it is due a timing belt change anyway.

Thanks!

Well I'll be dipped!
I removed the alternator belt to feel the bearings of the alternator and water pump.
Belt was soo tight and feels so old and hard.
I put the old belt back on but not as tight.
No noise after a 30 min drive yesterday.
Ordering a new belt tomorrow.
So the whining noise looks like it was due to an aging belt tensioned too high.
