Question Mods before turbo?

I'm planning on getting the RRM ICed Turbo Kit in a few months, but are there any smaller mods I can do to prepare me for the turbo? I'm not talking about big stuff like forged pistons. Just mods around $100 that I might need that aren't in the kit. Thanks in advance.

you might need:
extra fuel injection hose w/clamps
extra vacuum hose(for gauges, fmu, bov, wastegate)just in case you don't
have enough
oil(20w50)non synthetic
oil filter
3/8 NPT tap(actually larger like a regular 5/8 tap) with a 9/16 or 37/64 drill bit
zip ties
T fittings if you use a boost gauge
new exhaust with 2.25"-2.5" piping
maybe a high flow cat or test pipe

if i remember anything else I will post it later!

thread sealer or teflon tape

Sonantoni, that's a nice list of items and is really helpful to know. Where do you get the taps from?

Other that what ^^^ he said, there isn't much you are going to need for the kit that's going to cost around $100. I'd say start saving for a new clutch, limited slip differential, and tires. Those aren't in the $100 range, but you're probably going to need them in the future.

I don't think you want to use synthetic oil on the base lancer...Kontradiction's car got f**ed up cause of that...fuel pump can't handle it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I couldn't find one around so I ordered one from www.usahardware.com
item #20-120089
3/8-18 NPT pipe tap
$8.29 + ship.
but if you can find a 5/8-18 nf fraction tap it's just about the same measurement

Hmm that's odd, my DEALER recommended synthetic at my last oil change, and that's what I got in (2003 OZ).. It's Castrol Syntec.. Not 100% sure, but I think it's 5w30 too.. I bought and extra pint, I'll give more details if someone requests it..

Yeah, I put Mobil 1 synthetic with a Mobil 1 oil filter... I'm gonna ask my local mitsu dealer if it's cool.

in a NA car synthetic should be fine.. when running a turbo setup there is a chance of the oil becoming too thin for the pump to handle correctly... someone correct me if I am wrong

I'm still not convinced it's the oil pump problem. Certain things on this forum have become gospel, because no one dares to think outside the box . . . maybe out of fear or lack of tuning experience first or second hand. The evidence does look compelling but not gospel. Don't let some one do all your research. The truth is out there. You have to do your own research. If you want to do it the lazy way, fine. No skin off my back.

There are other possible variables in the equation. If you listen 100% what the dealership employees have to say, Santa has a beachfront property in the North Pole. The elves always love visitors beyond the Great White North. Book your travel agent NOW.

Otherwise, I highly doubt anyone here wants to verify it. Go to the dealership and ask them to print out a part # on the oil pump for the lancer and the 1.8L mirage . . . For the newbie, what the hell has the mirage anything to do with a lancer? Simple. Most lancers have over 80% parts sharing from the 1.8 liter mirage.

If it's the same parts #, the case is close. There is NO oil pump failure. From the US, to PR, to Aussie, there are far more 1.8l mirages w/ TC and running syth oil than all G94 TC combined to a 3 to 1 ratio. All the blowing from us are from tuning neglect or leaking fluids from certain parts.

If it has a different part #, there is a plausible cause for pump failure. Then, you have to look hard again. For certain years and some odd reason, Mitsu tends to change parts # on the same part. It does occur seldomly.

That's how you investigate on possible parts failure.

Leaks are bad... Synthetic oil in an RRM kit is a NO NO!! Following our guidelines for our kit is a must. What you do with other kits or custom setups is up to you and tuning IS critical!!

Myself... i've never had any issues with the car but i use dyno oil. Do i want to use synth... hell yah!! But to many stories are out there, like Bahamut said, so rather than dare i JUST SAY NO!! After all i've rebuilt my motor to many times to play around/tempt the motor gods into making me do it again.
