MLR - Email from Darin (Impact of board closure)
Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your mail, but can I ask what has lead you to your (utterly wrong) assumption that the MLR is referring to your particular posts???? It isn't.
Having emailed each other several times when you first joined the MLR and having met you at the last RR day, I am aware of the problems which you've encountered - not because you've informed me, or necessarily from what I've read (and then by putting 2 and 2 together), but by T** from T***** J******* calling me several times regarding postings on the site which HE believed to be detremental to his business. Having looked at these postings referring to your car obviously, my honest opinion is that the standard of your postings were excellent, and that at no time (to the best of my knowledge) did you mention T***** J******* in name or bring them into disrepute - and this much I've said to T**.
Assuming I'M right this time, I'm not very happy that you can ask 'how can we support such a company?' - and I would ask; who says that we are? or is this incorrect speculation again in reference to the temporary Forum closure??
For the record the reason we took this regrettable action - for that is what it is - and without going into specifics, it is due to the MLR receiving a serious complaint (via a phone call on Sunday morning) about a thread on the site. Within it and from different 'posters', it included a personal attack on someone and a slur on their character, foul language, blatantly incorrect information and a post which I can only describe as antagonistic and ignorant - all of which benefit absolutely no one and just cause ill feeling. It has nothing to do with censorship, but simply consideration to other users.
Over the past year I've received 'too many' personal emails and phone calls from MLR members complaining of other Forum users use of foul language, constant slanging matches between two or more people who believe their opinion is the correct one, and 'personal opinions' that have no relevance to the thread, and I wonder how many people would condone or just accept this behaviour if they were the ones who were receiving the phone calls and emails.
The decision wasn't one we took lightly but in the circumstances we considered this was the best option open to us, and we very much hope that come Saturday (when the Forum is back online) it returns to what it was originally intended for; a valuable, interesting and balanced source of information for like minded Lancer fans - and the 'unwanted element' either abide by the Terms of Agreement or simply don't post at all (preferably the latter). However, if they continue to act and post whatever they like and risk what the MLR Forum has achieved so far, we'll no doubt take steps towards banning them completely.
I'm sorry that this action has affected serious users such as yourself who use the board for the right reasons and I'm very happy that you consider the MLR Forum to be 'excellent and informative'. Please bear with us as I hope the addage 'no pain, no gain' will hold true for the MLR Forum, and that it will come back bigger and better!!
PS: Thankyou for your further mail too - I'm very aware that there are good and bad tuners, and that different people have different opinions, different goals and different 'depths of pocket'!, and although I (me, not the MLR) champion no one tuner (my personal opinion is generally: leave the bugger alone!) I feel the MLR should not get involved with the discussion, but purely help provide the vehicle for that discussion.
PPS: I'm really disappointed to read some of things that are being said on the 'Lancerforums' - especially by ******** (edited by AntsEvo). We have been threatened with being sued and I'm not prepared to have the last five years work get deleted because of some f____w_t who thinks he's 'it'.
With these attitudes I sometimes wonder why I bother to spend virtually ALL my spare time trying to help create something that others can benefit from.
Regards,
Darin

Well, I don't actually like being called a $$$$wit, and if someone called me that to my face they would have to face the consequences. All I've written here is my opinion about the note was left on the site which quite literally takes the píss. I don't actually think I'm "it", whatever that's supposed to mean. Darin, if you don't like what you're reading, don't read it!! What did you think?? Because you close the board, people will applaud the great action, especially when it's explained so, let's say, unfortunately (THAT definetely wasn't good PR)? Maybe if you would have explained the real reasons publicly, like you did in the mail, I wouldn't have reacted in the way I did? Otherwise I'm looking forward to meeting you in person some time and we can "discuss" your calling me a $$$$wit...
Actually, $$$$ it, I don't want to bore the people on this board with our conflicts. Ants, if it's o.k. with you, do you think we could ask the moderators to delete this thread?? It really hasn't got anything to do with lancerforums.com, so let's concentrate on all matters Lancer instead. Both opinions have been voiced, I wrote to Darin personally, maybe the MLR could admit that they handled the situation in an unfortunate way and then that's it.

MichaelK,
I think Darin has some valid points, at the end of the day the MLR board is/was still a very good board, I still don't see much techincal stuff being written or replied here....yet, although I will still be using this board, I just wish people would start to write the sort of things they used to on the MLR...all seems a bit "missing?"
I also shows you in Darins email, that alot of pressure is coming from the Tuners, to which I still feel that things should be done about it.

Michael,
Perhaps if you had wrote to Darin personally earlier, rather than posting your views publically on this forum then this whole situation wouldn't haven been blown out of all proportion and got to this stage which is way over the top.
At the end of the day, they've shut down the forum for 1 week (not really a major disaster when you compare it with whats happening in New York at the moment) and no doubt most people will be back on the MLR board again when it reopens so I can't see why everyone has got so upset about it all.
It all seems a bit childish to me to resort to publically slagging off people all because they closed down part of a website for 1 week (and that comment applies to both sides of the arguement).

ant,
Bit of a screw up mate
oh well damage is already done.
Michael,
there is no reason to go about asking for these and related threads to be deleted, lots of people are interested in them and too be honest this is the best explanation that we have had so far, this and the other post Darin made in response to me. Please don't delete them, the flack will die down very soon anyway.
I agree with you that this sort of explanation would have been much better that the one we got on the MLR site.
Just so I don't sit on the fence
Ant is an **** for not editing the email before posting it
Darin is an **** for naming the $$$$wit (even though it was in a personal email)
Michael is just an ****

(for god sake don't take this too seriously
)
now back to cars and stuff!

Just one last note, I agree that things have been blown out of proportion, but I wrote in a public way because their public explanation pointed into completely the wrong direction. Also I wanted a public explanation by them, I mean it can't be that everyone that wanted to know what happened would have to write to Darin directly? How many mails would that have been?? Anyway, read my new signature...
if the company in question knew what they were doing, none of this would have happened
this is just the sort of good info you want from a club, who to trust your car with and who not to
unless financial suicide is a pastime of the company, they will not be taking anyone to court over this
"sue" is probably the receptionist !
we are all different
why not have a new section, general chat-off topic
then the sensitive types could stay out of those threads and everyones happy

There are too mamy MLR posts at the moment and they all seem to have similar themes. I am closing this one, I will leave the 7 page one open, as long as it doesn't get out of hand.
